SCSU wins first conference game
St. Cloud, MN. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (4-6, 1-4 NSIC) won their first conference game of the season as they defeated Wayne State 78-55 Saturday evening. The Huskies led the entirety of the game as they snapped their three-game losing streak.
St. Cloud State burst out of the gates to start the game as a pair of triples from Jada Eggebrecht and Rachel Kottke led to an 8-0 run and an early timeout by the Wildcats. The Huskies steadily held that lead for the first quarter, but WSC closed the quarter on a 5-0 to set the score at 19-15. Wayne State continued to chip into the SCSU lead as they cut it down to two points, but an 8-1 run capped off by a triple from Alana Zarneke rebuilt it back up to nine with 6:45 left in the half. The Wildcats did not let go of the rope as they again had another strong close to the quarter as they set the score at 34-29 going into halftime.
While the teams traded buckets to open the half, a 10-4 run late in the third propped the Huskies up to a 10-point lead. They continued to pile it one as they ultimately led 56-43 headed into the fourth. A three-pointer by Kristi Kottke served as the dagger as SCSU came out on fire with a 10-0 to run the fourth as they now led 66-43. St. Cloud State would lead by 20+ points the remainder of the game with their biggest lead being 25 as they went on to win 78-55.
