Huskies take on Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State
St. Cloud, MN. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (4-6, 1-4 NSIC) close out 2025 with a pair of South Division opponents as they take on Sioux Falls on Thursday, December 18 and then Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday, December 20. Thursday's game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's game will be played at 4:00 p.m.

Huskies Drop Tight Match to Augustana in 72-68 Defeat- December 11, 2025
Three minutes into the game, Augustana came out with a 7-3 lead after finishing a layup. A 12-2 run capped off by Jada Eggebrecht finding Paige Lambe in the post who finished for a layup gave SCSU a 14-9 lead. The Vikings would respond with a 7-0 run to end the quarter as they led 16-14 after one. The Vikings held a steady lead for the majority of the second quarter as they held a 10-point lead with 21 seconds left until halftime. Eggebrecht added a spark at the end of the half as she finished a running floater as SCSU went into halftime trailing 35-27.
The first five minutes of the third quarter saw the teams trade buckets as SCSU could not cut into the lead and Augustana could not take control of the game. At the 4:59 mark of the third, CJ Adamson drilled a corner three and followed that with an assist to Reagan Briggs who cashed her own three. The three by Briggs cut the deficit down to two points. The teams traded layups before Brynn Olson finished inside to tie the game at 49. The Vikings retook the lead with a pair of free throws, but Eggebrecht burst through the paint and finished a layup through contact for the and-one. Her free throw swished home as SCSU led for the first time since the first quarter. A triple by Rachel Kottke with 36 seconds left in the quarter gave SCSU a 57-54 lead headed into the fourth. The defenses of both teams ramped up as the game would be tied at 61 halfway through the final frame. With 4:17 left in the game, the Vikings finished a layup which marked the start of an 8-0 run. An inside finish by Abigail O'Reilly stopped the bleeding as SCSU trailed 69-63 with two minutes left. The Huskies had one last burst in them as an offensive rebound and putback by Rachel Kottke set the score at 71-68 with 18 seconds remaining. Following a timeout by Augustana, SCSU smothered on the inbounds as they forced a five-second violation as they now had a chance to tie the game. The Huskies came away with a good shot attempt as Eggebrecht fired a three, but she was unable to connect to tie the game. St. Cloud State would have to foul where Augustana knocked down one of two free throws to put the game at multiple possessions. SCSU was ultimately defeated 72-68 against the Vikings.

Huskies Go Wire-to-Wire in 78-55 Win over Wayne State- December 13, 2025
St. Cloud State burst out of the gates to start the game as a pair of triples from Jada Eggebrecht and Rachel Kottke led to an 8-0 run and an early timeout by the Wildcats. The Huskies steadily held that lead for the first quarter, but WSC closed the quarter on a 5-0 to set the score at 19-15. Wayne State continued to chip into the SCSU lead as they cut it down to two points, but an 8-1 run capped off by a triple from Alana Zarneke rebuilt it back up to nine with 6:45 left in the half. The Wildcats did not let go of the rope as they again had another strong close to the quarter as they set the score at 34-29 going into halftime.
While the teams traded buckets to open the half, a 10-4 run late in the third propped the Huskies up to a 10-point lead. They continued to pile it one as they ultimately led 56-43 headed into the fourth. A three-pointer by Kristi Kottke served as the dagger as SCSU came out on fire with a 10-0 to run the fourth as they now led 66-43. St. Cloud State would lead by 20+ points the remainder of the game with their biggest lead being 25 as they went on to win 78-55. The Huskies played a complete game as they shot 51.8% from the field and 60% from three while holding Wayne State to 31.6% from the field and 19.2% from three while forcing 16 turnovers.

After crossing 1,000 career points last season, senior Jada Eggebrecht continues to rise the career scoring leaderboard at St. Cloud State. With 147 points this season, Eggebrecht is up to 1,258 career points which puts her in a tie for 21st all-time. She is 315 points from cracking into the top-10. The Philips, Wis. native has also cashed 155 career three-pointers, good for eighth all-time. She is 10 threes away from passing Teri Watkins (1995-99) for seventh.

Cold Shooting Hurts Huskies in 71-65 Loss to Sioux Falls- January 24, 2025
The Huskies got off to a slow start as they trailed 7-3 with 6:38 left in the quarter after Jada Eggebrecht drilled a three to put SCSU on the board. A three-pointer by Rachel Kottke capped off the 8-2 run for the Huskies where they would only trail by a single point. The teams battled for the next few minutes before Sioux Falls started to take control as they closed the quarter on a 6-0 run. The Cougars expanded the lead to eight points early in the second quarter to take a 19-11 lead. The Huskies ramped up their defense for the next four minutes as Sioux Falls would be held scoreless. During that time frame, SCSU used that defense to fuel quick offense as the game would be tied at 19 apiece. With a rejuvenated offense, St. Cloud State looked to take control after Alana Zarneke splashed a three to put the Huskies up five with 2:42 left in the half. The Huskies held firm that lead as Kylan Gerads snatched an offensive rebound and putback a layup with two seconds left until halftime. St. Cloud State now led 30-25 going into the break.
Coming out of the break, the Huskies continued to hold a steady lead as Eggebrecht cashed a three to put SCSU up six points. From that point, Sioux Falls got hot from three as they made five of their next six three-point attempts to now lead 50-45. The Cougars went into the fourth quarter leading 56-48 after Kami Wadsworth finished a layup with one second remaining. The Huskies battled throughout the fourth quarter as they never let go of the rope. Zarneke capped off a 7-0 for the Huskies with a three as the game would be tied at 63 with 2:54 remaining. Sioux Falls then commenced on a 4-0 to lead 67-63 with 1:43 left in the game. St. Cloud State did not make a field goal until 25 seconds left as Rachel Kottke stole the ball which led to a fast break layup by Paige Lambe. That would be the last field goal the Huskies made in the game as Sioux Falls made four of their final six free throw to close out the game. Sioux Falls ultimately defeated SCSU 71-65. The Huskies would shoot 34.3% from the field and 28.6% from three.

Second Half Offensive Explosion Powers No. 23 Mustangs Past Huskies- January 25, 2025
The game started slow offensively for both teams as SMSU led 5-4 with 4:22 left in the first quarter after a layup by Rachel Kottke. The Mustangs started to find their groove as they led 11-6 with 1:36 left in the quarter. To end the quarter, St. Cloud State used a 6-0 run with a three-pointer by Jada Eggebrecht and an and-one by Kylan Gerads to lead 12-11 going into the second frame. The defense shined for both teams in the second quarter as neither team exceeded 12 points. The teams battled back and forth as no team held a lead more than a single possession. The game would be tied at 23 headed into the break.
Coming out of the break, the Mustangs started to find their offense as they opened the half on a 10-0 run to lead 33-23 two minutes into the half. St. Cloud State never let the game get out of hand as they trailed 46-41 headed into the fourth after Eggebrecht finished an and-one layup. Two early buckets by SMSU pushed the lead back up to nine points, halting the Huskies momentum. SCSU continued to battle late as a three by Alana Zarneke cut the lead to three points with 5:59 remaining in the game. On their offensive possession, the Mustangs answered with a three of their own. That three started a 9-4 run for SMSU as an and-one layup by Audrey Swanson pushed the lead to eight points. Scouting Sioux Falls
The Sioux Falls Cougars come into this game holding a 7-3 record with a 4-1 mark in conference play. USF has beaten Southwest Minnesota State, Wayne State, Augustana, and Concordia-St. Paul. USF is coming off a 2024-25 season where they went 17-14 with a 12-10 mark in the NSIC. The Cougars took down Minnesota Crookston in the first round of the NSIC tournament before falling to Northern State in the quarterfinals. Sioux Falls were projected to finish tied for second in the NSIC Preseason Poll.
Sioux Falls returns both of their All-Conference Honorees in Kami Wadsworth (First Team) and Ayla Brown (Second Team) as well as NSIC Freshman of the Year in Alexis Rose. Wadsworth led the Cougars with 18.9 points and 4.9 rebounds but suffered an injury earlier this season. Brown averaged 9.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists while Rose totaled 10.3 points and 4.1 rebounds.
Through 10 games, USF is led by Anna Vaaler who is averaging 22.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.9 stocks. Vaaler is shooting 47.1% from the field and 41.9% from three. Two other Cougars are scoring double-digit points in Krista Langager and Rose who average 13.4 10.8 points respectively.
Head Coach Travis Traphagen enters his 18th season with Sioux Falls in the 2025-26 season. He holds a 308-190 record with six 20-win seasons and 12 NSIC Tournament appearances.

Scouting Southwest Minnesota State
The Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs come into this game holding a 5-5 record with a 3-2 record in the NSIC. They have beaten Augustana, Wayne State, and Concordia-St. Paul while falling to Sioux Falls and Winona State. SMSU is coming off a historic season where they went 28-5 with a 19-3 mark in the NSIC to finish second. The Mustangs fell to Minnesota State in the NSIC semifinals but still reached the NCAA Tournament. SMSU took down Concordia-St. Paul and Fort Hays State before losing to Pittsburg State in the Region Championship. The Mustangs came into this season projected to finish fourth in the NSIC.
The offseason saw the Mustangs lose two of their three All-Conference Honorees in Bri Stolzman and Peyton Blandin. Stolzman was named First Team All-NSIC as well as NSIC Player of the Year and went on to be named an All-American. Blandin was named Second Team All-NSIC.
To start the season, SMSU is led by Nicole Maenke and Audrey Swason who both average 16.0 points per game. Maenke is also averaging 2.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists while Swanson is grabbing 7.2 rebounds and dishing 3.3 assists. Two other Mustangs score in double figures in former Husky Kylan Gerads (14.0) and Natalie Nielson (11.3).
Head Coach Tom Webb enters his 10th season with Southwest Minnesota State in the 2025-26 season. Webb has accumulated a 129-124 record in his tenure.

Scouting Southwest Minnesota State
The Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs come into this game holding a 5-5 record with a 3-2 record in the NSIC. They have beaten Augustana, Wayne State, and Concordia-St. Paul while falling to Sioux Falls and Winona State. SMSU is coming off a historic season where they went 28-5 with a 19-3 mark in the NSIC to finish second. The Mustangs fell to Minnesota State in the NSIC semifinals but still reached the NCAA Tournament. SMSU took down Concordia-St. Paul and Fort Hays State before losing to Pittsburg State in the Region Championship. The Mustangs came into this season projected to finish fourth in the NSIC.
The offseason saw the Mustangs lose two of their three All-Conference Honorees in Bri Stolzman and Peyton Blandin. Stolzman was named First Team All-NSIC as well as NSIC Player of the Year and went on to be named an All-American. Blandin was named Second Team All-NSIC.
To start the season, SMSU is led by Nicole Maenke and Audrey Swason who both average 16.0 points per game. Maenke is also averaging 2.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists while Swanson is grabbing 7.2 rebounds and dishing 3.3 assists. Two other Mustangs score in double figures in former Husky Kylan Gerads (14.0) and Natalie Nielson (11.3).
Head Coach Tom Webb enters his 10th season with Southwest Minnesota State in the 2025-26 season. Webb has accumulated a 129-124 record in his tenure.
