SCSU allows 47 second half points
Marshall, MN. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (4-8, 1-6 NSIC) were defeated 75-64 to Southwest Minnesota State Saturday evening in their final game of 2025. SCSU shot 36.1% from the field and 17.6% three.
Both teams started slow offensively as a reverse layup by Abigail O'Reilly tied the game at nine at the 3:25 mark of the first quarter. SMSU closed the first frame on a 6-0 to lead 15-9, but the Huskies produced a strong defensive quarter as they limited the Mustangs to 25% shooting. SCSU opened up the second with some energy on both ends as a steal and score by Alana Zarneke gave the Huskies an 18-17 lead after a 9-2 run. The rest of the half bounced back-and-forth as neither team held a lead bigger than three points. A free throw by O'Reilly with three seconds left in the half set the score at 28-26 with SCSU trailing at the break.
Coming out of halftime, SMSU looked to have taken control off a 14-2 run as they led 47-34 with 3:44 remaining in the third. The Huskies would call a timeout and come out with a much-needed response as they used an instant 7-0 run to get back into the game. The Mustangs ultimately went into the fourth leading 51-43. St. Cloud State started the fourth with a quick 4-0 run as a layup by Jada Eggebrecht cut the lead down to four. From that bucket by Eggebrecht, SMSU tallied a 7-0 run to balloon their lead up to 11 and force a SCSU timeout. The Huskies continued to battle the rest of the way but were unable to get closer than seven points as they went on to lose 75-64. The Mustangs poured in 47 points in the second half and shot 57% after the first quarter.
