Late Game Surge Pushes Huskies Past RV Golden Bears in 93-87 Win

Winkel and Philippe combine for 50 points
St. Paul, MN. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (4-3, 2-0 NSIC) battled back-and-forth against RV Concordia-St. Paul Wednesday evening, but a late surge by the Huskies propelled them to a 93-87 in St. Paul. Luke Winkel and Kynan Philippe each scored career highs as the duo combined for 50 points in the victory.
The first half was an offensive battle as the teams each shot greater than 50% from the field. Neither team was able to gather much separation as St. Cloud State's biggest lead of the half was four points while Concordia-St. Paul's was three points. In the final three minutes of the half, the Huskies cashed three of their last four three-point attempts, propping them to a 49-45 lead at the break. Luke Winkel was the leading scorer of the half with 15 points and also dished out six assists.
SCSU carried over their momentum from the end of the half as a three by Anish Ramlall put the Huskies up 58-51 at the 17:44 mark of the second half. CSP would respond with an 8-0 run to retake the lead as the game went back to a back-and-forth affair. With 4:36 left in the game, the Golden Bears held a narrow 83-82 lead after a three-pointer by Owen Carlson. After a miss by both teams, Wyatt Hawks gathered a mismatch in the post and found a diving Ramlall who freed himself open off a baseline cut. Ramlall finished through contact for the big bucket and the and-one to retake the lead for SCSU. He would not convert the free throw, but after another defensive stop Ramlall found an open Philippe who splashed a three to give SCSU an 87-83 lead with 3:04 remaining. While the offense came away with timely buckets and free throws, the defensive physicality of the Huskies shined as they held CSP without a field goal for over four minutes of action. After the three by Carlson, CSP would not make a field goal until 26 seconds remained as Carlson finished a layup to set the score at 91-87 with the Huskies leading. Ramlall would ice the game at the free throw line with a pair of makes as SCSU walked into the Gangelhoff Center and knocked off RV Concordia-St. Paul by score of 93-87.
