Klára Hymlárová ’24 shines in PWHL Playoffs, becomes first St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey alumna win Walter Cup
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Former St. Cloud State Women's Hockey alternate captain Klára Hymlárová (Opava, Czech Republic) continues to make history for the program as she and the Minnesota Frost won the 2025 Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) Walter Cup on Monday night at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The 3-1 series victory over the Ottawa Charge marks the second consecutive title for Minnesota, who has swept the first two PWHL championships, while Hymlárová is the first St. Cloud State Women's Hockey alumna win the Walter Cup
Hymlárová made major contributions from the fourth line, tallying points in three of the four games during the PWHL Finals. The forward provided assists on the game-winning-goals in each of the last two Frost wins – the triple overtime game three and the overtime game four series finale. It marked the first time in her career that she recorded points in back-to-back games. She also scored the lone Frost goal in game one with just over five minutes remaining to force overtime.
The first-year pro led all rookie skaters in assists (four), was tied for the lead in points (five), tied for third in +/- (+1) and was tied for fifth in goals (one). Overall, she was tied for fifth in playoff scoring and tied for fourth in assists.
The Frost dropped game one of the series but rallied to win the next three games to earn their second Walter Cup in as many years. All four games in the series went to overtime.
One other Husky alumna, former alternate captain forward Laura Kluge (Berlin, Germany), who wore a Huskies sweater from 2017-21, represented SCSU in the PWHL Playoffs as a member of the Toronto Sceptres. The Frost defeated the Sceptres, 3-1, in the team's semifinals matchup. Kluge skated in three games but did not tally a point.
