ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Director of Athletics Holly Schriener announced the hiring of Abi Semanko as the Assistant Athletics Director of Operations on Monday. Semanko joins the administrative staff after previously serving as the department's creative content graduate assistant and an external operations/ticketing intern.
In her role, Semanko will support Associate Athletics Director of Operations/SWA, Nora Lieser, in aspects of both internal and external operations. She will assist in the oversight of the department's strategic marketing initiatives and support the in-game fan experiences. In addition, she will also serve as a sport administrator.
I am so excited to have Abigail on staff, said Lieser. She has done phenomenal work for us as an undergraduate student and then again as our graduate assistant. She brings a great perspective to our team and I'm looking forward to her helping us grow our marketing and fan experience initiatives.
Prior to joining the department in a full-time capacity, Semanko served as the creative content graduate assistant during the 2024-25 school year in addition to being an external operations and ticketing intern from May 2024 to December 2024. As an undergraduate student, she worked as a marketing communications intern from May 2022 to May 2023 and a marketing specialist from September 2021 to May 2023.
In addition to working in the athletics department, Semanko served as a graduate assistant for the Department of Kinesiology from August 2023 to May 2024. She also was a social media intern for the St. Cloud Rox during the summer of 2023.
Semanko, who was on the St. Cloud State Hockey Cheer team as an undergraduate, has served as the team's head coach since August 2023. She was also a figure skating coach for the St. Cloud Figure Skating Club from June 2021 to August 2023 and the Thief River Falls Figure Skating Club from October 2018 to January 2020.
A Thief River Falls, Minnesota native, Semanko is a two-time graduate of St. Cloud State University, earning a bachelor's degree in recreation and sports management with minors in athletic coaching, marketing and mass communications in 2023 and a master's degree in sports management in 2025.
