Huskies record straight set wins over Northern Michigan, Michigan Tech to extend sweep streak to three
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 10 St. Cloud State Volleyball (5-2 overall, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept a pair of teams from the Great Lakes State on the second day of the Best Western/Kelly Inn of St. Cloud UP North Tournament at Halenbeck Hall on Friday.
SCSU opened the day with a sweep of Northern Michigan (1-6, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), winning 25-13, 25-20 and 25-14 and finished it out with a straight set win over Michigan Tech (2-4, 0-0 GLIAC), 25-17, 25-12, 25-20 to extend its sweep streak to three matches.
MATCH ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 3, NORTHERN MICHIGAN 0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-14)
TOP HUSKIES
"Our focus for this match was on the defensive side. I thought we did a fantastic job blocking, especially in set one, and we did a really good job overall digging the ball. Anything that was hit between the sidelines and onto the court we were very aggressive with. Northern Michigan did a great job tooling off the block and really attacked our outside hands of our wing blockers. I thought they were better overall serving and passing today, and we did okay scoring points and getting kills, but I still would like us to do a little bit better job of limiting our errors."
NOTABLES
MATCH TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE 3, MICHIGAN TECH 0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-20)
TOP HUSKIES
"That was a really fun match tonight because of how balanced we were on offense. All of our attackers were very efficient. We were able to force the tempo to get our attackers quite a few one on one swings with single blocks, and then our execution was fantastic by all of our hitters. I really like how aggressive we were from the service line, and we were very efficient in the side out game. After about the first 20 points of the match, I thought we were much better on defense and that really seemed to frustrate Michigan Tech."
NOTABLES
The Huskies finish up play at the Best Western/Kelly Inn of St. Cloud UP North Tournament on Saturday with a ranked tilt against No. 17 Barry (Fla.). First serve is scheduled for noon from Halenbeck Hall. Links to each coverage option can be found on the St. Cloud State Volleyball schedule page.
