
St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Begins NSIC Play with Minot State & UMary

Huskies face Minot State on Friday and UMary on Sunday
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (2-0-1, 0-0-0 NSIC) begins conference play with a road trip to North Dakota to face Minot State (0-3-0, 0-0-0 NSIC) and UMary (2-1-0, 0-0-0 NSIC) this weekend. The Huskies will begin with a match against Minot State on Friday, Sept. 19 at 5:00 p.m. CT and will close the weekend with a game against UMary on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 1:00 p.m. CT.

SERIES HISTORY
SCSU will be look to gain ground in the all-time series against Minot State and extend its series lead against UMary, posting a 4-9-1 record against the Beavers and a 11-8-2 record against the Maurauders. Last season, SCSU played to 1-1 ties to both schools on the road (Oct. 11 at UMary and Oct. 13 at Minot State) before falling to UMary in overtime, 2-1, in the NSIC Quarterfinals on Nov. 11.
SPAINE SCORES TWICE
Junior defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa) led the charge offensively in SCSU's 5-0 win over UW-Parkside (Sept. 12), scoring twice to double her career goal total from two to four. The two goals marked the first career two-goal game for the two-time All-NSIC defender. Spaine also anchored the backline for Huskies that has only allowed one goal in three games this season. The Huskies have shutout its last two opponents and are currently on a 167 minute shutout streak dating back to the season opener on Sept. 5.
QUAM REACHES 25-POINT CLUB
With an assist in SCSU's 1-0 win over Michigan Tech on Sept. 7, senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) recorded her 25th career point to become the 24th Husky in program history to join the 25-point club. Quam then recorded three assists in a 5-0 win over UW-Parkside on Sept. 12 to match a career-high from her three assists against Minnesota Crookston on Nov. 2, 2023. She is just the second Husky in program history to have multiple games with three or more assists, joining Kim Corbin who did it four times.
Quam leads the NSIC in assists with four and ranks fifth in points with four.
In 60 career games, Quam has scored five goals and 18 assists for 28 career points. Her 18 career assists rank third all-time in program history while her 28 career points rank 21st all-time. Quam has twice been named to an All-NSIC team, earning first team honors in 2023 and second team honors in 2024.
Quam joins current teammates senior Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) and junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) in the 25-point club. Primerano currently ranks 11th with 38 points (12g/14a) while Trapino ranks 15th with 32 points (13g/6a).
LEADERSHIP GROUP
St. Cloud State selected three student-athletes to serve as captains for the 2025 season. Sophomore defender Izzy Halunen (Woodbury, Minn.), senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) and junior defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa) will hold the honor as captains for the Huskies. Spaine earned All-NSIC first team recognition as well as All-Central honors from the USC and D2CCA in 2024, while Halunen and Quam both earned All-NSIC Second Team honors.
HUSKIES LOOK TO BUILD ON BACK-TO-BACK NCAA TOURNAMENT APPEARANCES
Last season, the Huskies earned its second consecutive and second-ever NCAA Tournament berth after a 11-4-5 campaign and 8-1-5 record in NSIC play. SCSU reached 10+ wins for the second consecutive season and eighth time overall, with its first time with back-to-back 10-win seasons since 2010-11. The Huskies set a program record with an 11-game unbeaten streak and advanced to the NSIC Tournament for the seventh time in the last nine seasons played. Six Huskies earned All-NSIC recognition, with Primerano and Spaine each being named to the first team.
