St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer and Minot State Play to Draw in NSIC Opener

Huskies erase brief deficit with goal in 67th minute to result in draw
MINOT, N.D. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (2-0-2, 0-0-1 NSIC) played a back-and-forth battle with Minot State (0-3-1, 0-0-1 NSIC), resulting in a 2-2 tie on Friday evening in Minot, N.D. The Huskies took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Minot State opened the second half with two goals to take a 2-1 lead. SCSU responded quickly to draw even, scoring nine minutes later to tie the score at 2-2 in the 67th minute.
TURNING POINT
Minot State had taken a 2-1 lead following goals in the 53rd and 58th minutes, but the Huskies wouldn't let the deficit last for long. In the 67th minute, sophomore defender Izzy Halunen (Woodbury, Minn.) had the ball near midfield and played it up to the box on a beautiful feed, finding junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) who was able to control the pass with a touch and get it past the goalkeeper for a score and 2-2 tie.
Both teams had chances in the final 20 minutes but didn't find the back of the net to keep the tie.

- Freshman forward McKenna Breunig (Sauk City, Wis.) scored her first career goal in the first half.
- Junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa) and Halunen each had assists in the contest.
- With the draw, SCSU is now 4-9-2 all-time against Minot State.
- Trapino netted her second goal of the season and 14th of her career. Her 34 career points moves her to 13th on SCSU's all-time scoring list (14g/6a).
- Breunig scored her first career goal in her fourth career game.
- Olson recorded her second assist and fourth point of the season with a helper on Breunig's goal.
- Halunen recorded her first assist of the season and second career assist.
- Three Huskies – redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio), junior defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa) and Halunen – played a full 90 minutes in the game.
