UNBEATEN TO START THE SEASON
With its 1-0 win over UMary on Sept. 21, SCSU pushed its unbeaten streak to a program-high five games to start the season, surpassing its previous best start of 3-0-1 in 2002. The Huskies have earned victories over Michigan Tech (1-0, Sept. 7), UW-Parkside (5-0, Sept. 12) and UMary (1-0, Sept. 21), and played to draws against Northern Michigan (1-1, Sept. 5) and Minot State (2-2, Sept. 19).
A balanced attack offensively and defensively has helped SCSU jump out to the fast start, with the Huskies ranking in the top five of the NSIC in most statistical categories as a team, including second in points (31), second in assists (11), third in save percentage (.875), fourth in goals (10) and fifth in goals against average (0.60). Among individual leaders, senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) leads the NSIC in assist with four while junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa) ranks third with three.
MS. CLUTCH
Senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) came up clutch when it mattered most for the Huskies, scoring with 10 seconds left in the game to upend UMary, 1-0, on Sept. 21. Primerano scored her second goal and second game-winning goal of the season with her late goal. The game-winning score was her sixth career game-winning goal, moving her to eighth all-time in program history. Primerano's score gives her 40 career points (13g/14a), as she becomes just the 11th player in program history to reach 40 career points.
SPAINE SCORES TWICE
Junior defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa) led the charge offensively in SCSU's 5-0 win over UW-Parkside (Sept. 12), scoring twice to double her career goal total from two to four. The two goals marked the first career two-goal game for the two-time All-NSIC defender. Spaine also anchored the backline for Huskies that has only allowed three goals in five games this season. The Huskies have shutout three opponents this season, a mark which ranks third in the NSIC.
QUAM REACHES 25-POINT CLUB
With an assist in SCSU's 1-0 win over Michigan Tech on Sept. 7, senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) recorded her 25th career point to become the 24th Husky in program history to join the 25-point club. Quam then recorded three assists in a 5-0 win over UW-Parkside on Sept. 12 to match a career-high from her three assists against Minnesota Crookston on Nov. 2, 2023. She is just the second Husky in program history to have multiple games with three or more assists, joining Kim Corbin who did it four times.
