Olson nets goal in 29th minute, Huskies record third consecutive shutout to extend unbeaten streak to seven
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (5-0-2, 3-0-1 NSIC) extended its win streak to three and its unbeaten streak to seven to start the season with a 1-0 win over Northern State (0-6-1, 0-3-1 NSIC) on Sunday at Husky Stadium. Junior defender Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa) scored the lone goal of the game in the 29th minute to lift the Huskies to victory.
The 1-0 win was the Huskies' third consecutive shutout victory, marking the first time since the final two games of the 2022 season (Oct. 22, 27) and the first game of the 2023 season (Aug. 31) that SCSU has record three consecutive wins via shutouts. The last time it happened in the same season was five consecutive victories from Nov. 1 – Nov. 13, 2019.
TURNING POINT
SCSU was able to find the back of the net in the 29th minute when two of its key contributors connected for the score. Senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) led the charge up the left side of the field and ran almost all the way to the goal line before she changed direction and looked back to the middle of the field. Near the top of the box was Olson, who gathered the pass and fired a shot, which was blocked by a defender but came right back to her. Now all alone, Olson was able to stay under control and rip a shot to the far right side to beat the goalkeeper for the score.
TOP HUSKIES
SCSU will hit the road for its next two games, traveling to Sioux Falls on Friday, Oct. 3 and to Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday, Oct. 5.
