Huskies earn first win of 2025 with sweep of No. 4 San Francisco State, drop four-setter to host Western Washington
BELLINGHAM, Wash. – No. 3 St. Cloud State Volleyball (1-2 overall, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) split its day two matches at the Western Washington Invitational on Friday at the WECU Gym at Carver Gym in Bellingham.
The Huskies earned their first win of the new season with a sweep of No. 4 San Francisco State (0-2, 0-0 California Collegiate Athletic Association), 25-10, 25-19 and 25-20 before falling to the host school, Western Washington (1-1, 0-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) in the squad's first four-set match of the year, 25-21, 23-25, 24-26 and 16-25.
MATCH ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 3, SAN FRANCISCO STATE 0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-20)
TOP HUSKIES
"I thought we had much better flow today. San Francisco State graduated a lot of their offense, as well as their starting libero and starting setter, so it was good to get a lineup that was a little more experienced for us back on the floor today. I was extremely happy with our serving today – we made them very uncomfortable at different times. I really wish we would pass a little bit better overall, but our set distribution was very balanced, and that helped us with some offensive flow."

TOP HUSKIES
"I thought we got off to a great start in set one, really serving aggressive and firing on all cylinders. After that, everything just turned into a battle to score points and get runs. They were super aggressive serving us and we struggled with some serves. Overall, our offensive performance was very solid, but I didn't feel like we could put together enough defensive plays to really put pressure on them, as they were absolutely blistering on offense. We talked about wanting to play good teams this preseason to help prepare us, and I think Western Washington will be right back in the mix for an NCAA tournament appearance again this year."
NOTABLES
