NATIONAL POLLS / POST-SEASON OUTLOOK
- SCSU has yet to crack the top-20 in either the USCHO or USA Hockey polls this season, but they are right of the cusp of entering the top-20 and are receiving votes in both polls. Minnesota Duluth enters the weekend ranked No. 6 in both polls and reached as high as No. 3 in both polls earlier this season, its highest ranking since 2021. With the second half of the season in progress, focus has shifted to the NCAA Percentage Index (NPI), which replaces the Pairwise and is the official system for selecting and seeding teams for the NCAA Tournament. In the current NPI, SCSU moved up one spots from a week ago to No. 19 (11-11-0, 0-3 OT) and is in striking distance of an at-large postseason bid with a strong second half. UMD is sitting comfortably in postseason contention as is currently ranked No. 4 in the NPI (16-6-0, 2-2 OT).
SERIES HISTORY
- SCSU and UMD continues its rivalry with its second meeting of the 2025-26 season after the Bulldogs swept the first series of the season and earned five of six conference points with a 4-0 win and 3-2 OT win on Nov. 7-8 in Duluth. The Huskies hold a 84-70-11 advantage in the all-time series, but UMD is 7-1-0 against the Huskies in the last eight meetings and 7-3-0 in the last 10. In St. Cloud, the Huskies are 47-30-7 all-time against the Bulldogs.
- UMD outshot the Huskies 13-5 in the first period and 29-18 overall in the 4-0 win in the Friday game. On Saturday, the Bulldogs scored first, but two second period goals from junior forwards Barrett Hall and Tyson Gross gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead before UMD scored in the third and overtime for the win.

- Junior forward Tyson Gross (28 points / 1.27 ppg), sophomore forward Austin Burnevik (24 points / 1.09 ppg) and junior forward Barrett Hall (23 points / 1.05 ppg) have led the way offensively for the Huskies through 22 games, all averaging more than a point per game. SCSU is one of 13 teams in the NCAA to have 3+ players averaging 1.00+ points per game. - Gross' current mark of 1.27 ppg is the best mark by a Husky since Kale Kossila posted 1.32 points per game in 2015-16 (54 points in 41 games). In 38 seasons of Division-I hockey, SCSU has had three or more players average 1.00+ ppg in 14 seasons and just four times since 2003-04.
