Zach Glazier makes Huskies debut
St. Cloud, MN. – No. 13 St. Cloud State Wrestling (13-2, 6-0 NSIC) returned to Halenbeck Hall Thursay evening as they took down No. 12 UMary 25-13. St. Cloud State won the last five matches after trailing 13-7.
The dual began at 285 where Zach Glazier would make his much-anticipated debut for the Huskies as he took on No. 3 Luke Tweeton. After a scoreless first period, Tweeton would score the first points of the match with an escape. The two wrestlers battled into collar ties before Glazier snagged an ankle of Tweeton with his left hand and ultimately worked his way to a takedown. He would ride out Tweeton the remainder of the second before Tweeton allowed Glazier to escape to start the third. The collar ties stayed consistent in the third period. With time ticking away and in need of a takedown, Tweeton misfired on a shot that Glazier turned into a double leg takedown. Adding on a riding time point, Zach Glazier would come away with the 8-1 win over No. 3 Luke Tweeton.
Moving back up to 125, Ben Aranda produced four takedowns in what would be a 14-2 victory.
With the Huskies leading 7-0, UMary rattled off the next three matches to take a 13-7 lead. No. 5 Jacob Strausbaugh would pin Ethan Bast. No. 4 Sean Solis came away with a 11-3 major decision against Jayce Luna and a first period takedown would propel Kale Baumann to a 4-1 decision over Alyeus Craig.
Coming out of the intermission, No. 2 Joel Jesuroga took to the mat against No. 13 Kaden Renner. Jesuroga captured five takedowns as he nearly came away with a tech fall. He would come away with a 16-3 major decision to put the Huskies back on track.
No. 14 Derek Johnson used a third period takedown to secure a 4-1 decision against Lane Ewing as the Huskies took a 14-13 lead. No. 11 Bryce Dagel followed and added a decision of his own. A takedown with 18 seconds left secured Dagel's 7-2 win over Joey Mushinsky.
Now holding a 17-13 lead, No. 2 Cole Glazier secured the win for the Huskies with an 8-1 decision. Tyson Meyer closed it out with an 18-3 tech fall as St. Cloud State rallied for the 25-13 win.
