2011-12: Played in all 36 games for the Huskies during her junior season ... Totaled seven goals, four assists, and 59 shots ... -21 plus/minus ... 12/35 PIM ... Recorded 17 blocks on the season ... Scored her first goal of the season against Union on Oct. 1 ... Posted a game winning goal against Minnesota State on Dec. 10 ... Gained fourth goal of the season in win over Ohio State on Jan. 7 ... Recorded a season-high five shots on goal against Wisconsin on Feb. 11 ... Tied for second on the team in number of goals scored (7), lead the team in game winning goals (2), and shot percentage (.119).
2010-11: All-WCHA Academic recipient … Third on the team with eight points (5g, 3a) in 35 games played … Her five goals ranked second on the squad … 19/49 PIM … Posted a two-goal game against Wisconsin on Feb. 25 during the first round of the WCHA Playoffs ... Fired off a season-high seven shots on goal at Minnesota on Feb. 4.
2009-10: Voted the team’s Rookie of the Year … Appeared in all 37 games for the Huskies during her rookie stint … Charted first career tally on Nov. 27 at Brown with an important goal in a 5-4 road victory … Dished out first career assist at Wisconsin on Jan. 23 in yet another big 4-3 road win … Totaled 12 points in 2009-10 (6g, 6a) … Fifth on the team with three power play goals … Was 7-14 in PIM … -13 plus/minus … Netted her first career game-winning at Ohio State on Feb. 19.
Before SCSU: Nelson was named one of the five finalists for the 14th annual Ms. Hockey Award, presented to the top senior girls’ high school hockey player in Minnesota in 2009 … A three-sport standout for Andover High School … Lettered four times in hockey, Nelson captained her prep team since the 2004-05 season … A four-time All-Northwest Suburban Conference recipient, Nelson has twice landed on the All-State Honorable Mention squad as a forward for the AHS Huskies … The team MVP charted 109 goals and 101 helpers in her prep tenure heading into her senior stint … Named to the USA Hockey roster for the U.S. Women’s National Under-18 Team that defended its world title at the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's U18 Championship from January 5-10 in Fussen, Germany … Voted her school’s Most Athletic Female, Nelson has also had success playing volleyball and fastpitch softball in high school…a team captain in volleyball, Nelson has gained All-Conference honors twice in her career, and also helped lead her prep team to two State Tournament appearances, finishing second and fourth in the state during those seasons … In softball, Nelson has captained her prep team twice, and has tabbed an All-Conference nod, along with her team’s Big Bat Award.
Personal: Planning to pursue a degree in physical education at St. Cloud State with a minor in coaching, Alex is the daughter of Ron and Sue Nelson of Andover, Minn. Away from athletics, Nelson has kept herself busy as a member of the National Honor Society … A three-year high honors student, Nelson also volunteers for the Youth Teaching Youth program, a Learn to Skate program and the Adopt a Family program.
