Huskies Sweep By Lindenwood, 7-2

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's hockey team posted its second sweep of the season as the played game two of a non-conference series against Lindenwood University, 7-2. The Huskies now improve their record to 4-7-1 overall, 2-6-0 in the WCHA.
The Huskies came out firing in game two of the series wanting to put away more of their shots on goal, which they did. SCSU's Julia Gilbert scored her second goal of the season just five minutes into the game after a pass by Amy Olson. In just a little over a minute later it was Haylea Schmid putting one into the back of the net taking a 2-0 lead over the Lions. Assists were charted to Molli Mott and Cari Coen on the goal. SCSU outshot the Lions 23-8 in the first period.
The first period was filled with a little excitement not only by the Huskies goals but a sheet of glass shattered after a skate hit put a hole into the glass. The game was stopped with 6:00 minutes left in the first period to clean up the glass. Intermission was moved up and then after the first period was finished. No one was hurt on the incident.
Early in the second period the Huskies took a 3-0 lead with a power-play goal by Molli Mott who was assisted by Alex Nelson and Michelle Burke. Lindenwood was got one past SCSU's freshman goalie Katie Fitzgerald, to make it a 3-1 game. Sophomore Abby Ness found the net eight second later advancing the Huskies lead 4-1. After the Husky goal Lindenwood substituted Taylor Fairchild into the goalie spot taking over for Nicole Hensley who had a good game in game one of the series.
Ness was assisted by freshman Vanessa Spataro. At the 6:31 mark of the second Lindenwood found the net again on a power-play to decrease the Huskies lead 4-2. Senior Haylea Schmid and Julia Gilbert both found the net in the second period scoring their second goals of the game taking the Huskies to a 6-2 lead. Lindenwood outshot the Huskies in the second period 16-12.
The third period was slower than the first two periods with action. The Huskies got one past the Lions' goalie at the 1:34 mark of the third period taking a 7-2 lead. It was senior Ellie Sitek scoring, with assists by Vanessa Spataro and Skye Kelly. SCSU outshot the Lions by a small margin of 7-6 in the third period.
Freshman Katie Fitzgerald was at goal for the Huskies in game two recording 28 saves and allowed only two goals for the win. Fitzgerald improves her record to 2-4-0 on the season. The Lions' Nicole Hensley totaled 22 saves and allowed four goals, while Taylor Fairchild tallied 13 saves and allowed three goals.
St. Cloud State will return to action November 16-17 for a WCHA home series as they welcome Minnesota-Duluth to the National Hockey & Event Center. Games are slated to start at 7:07 p.m. on Friday and 2:07 p.m. on Saturday.

ANNUAL YOUTH GIRLS' CLINIC
The Huskies are to host their annual U-14 and below Youth Area Girls' Clinic in the National Hockey & Event Center on Sunday, November 11, 2012. The event will take place from 2:45-4:15 p.m. Participants of the clinic will receive instruction from SCSU women's hockey coaches and student-athletes. Each participant will also receive a free ticket to a 2012-13 SCSU women's hockey game. All participants must provide own skates, helmets, padding, gloves, and hockey stick.
