Husky Men's Basketball Posts 71-52 Win over Saint Joseph's College

Lakeland, Fla. – St. Cloud State University men's basketball improved to 3-0 on the season with a 71-52 non-conference win over Saint Joseph's College (Rensselaer, Ind.) Saturday afternoon in the FSC Ledger Media Group/Terrace Hotel Classic hosted by Florida Southern College.
After matching his career high of 21 points in Friday's 91-89 win over Florida Southern, senior forward Theo Rothstein (St. Michael) threw down a career high 23 points on 11 of 18 shooting from the field. He also had six rebounds in the game.
Junior guard Damarius Cruz (Robbinsdale) scored a career high 16 points, made four of eight three-point baskets, had four rebounds and two steals.
Two other Huskies came away with career highs in the win. Sophomore center James Fort (Annandale) had a career high in points and rebounds with a 12 point, nine rebound performance. Senior guard Shaun Jensen (Spring Lake Park) dished out a career high 11 assists and pulled down a career high nine rebounds.
St. Cloud State shot 49.1 percent from the field and out rebounded the Pumas 39-38.
Saint Joe's had four players score in double figures led by Corey Clifton with 14 points and six rebounds. Ryan Rebholz was the Pumas leading rebounder with seven and scored 10 points.
The Pumas shot 34.9 percent from the field and are 1-3 to start the season.
St. Cloud State led 39-27 at the half. Saint Joe's started the second half on a 13-0 run , taking a 40-39 lead on a Michael Lipton layup at the 14:29 mark. A layup by the Pumas Dayvon Sloan tied the game 46-46 with 11:09 left in the game.
The Huskies went on the offensive outscoring the Pumas 14-0 over the next six and a half minutes to take a 64-47 lead and bring home the win. During the run Rothstein scored six points and sophomore forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) added four points.
St. Cloud State will tip-off the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) season next Saturday, Dec. 1 when the Huskies play host to the University of Minnesota Duluth. The game is part of an NSIC men's and women's doubleheader with the women's start scheduled for 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
