Huskies Cruise to 97-68 Win in Men's Basketball

St. Cloud, Minn. – The 22nd-ranked t. Cloud State University men's basketball team cruised to a 97-68 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opening win over the University of Minnesota Duluth Saturday evening.
The Huskies improved to 4-0 on the season and are 1-0 in league play. UMD dropped to 2-3 overall and are 0-1 in the NSIC.
St. Cloud State led this game from start to finish as junior guard Damarius Cruz (Robbinsdale) scored the first basket of the game, a three. The Huskies led by as many as 24 points in the first half and led 48-28 at half time.
The Huskies made 12 three-point baskets in the game, shot 54.7 percent from the field and 40 percent from three point range. SCSU out rebounded the Bulldogs 39-34.
Senior guard Shaun Jensen (Spring Lake Park) notched a double double as he scored 11 points and dished out ten assists.
Five Huskies scored in double figures and for the fourth straight game senior forward Theo Rothstein (St. Michael) led the Huskies in scoring. He finished the game with 22 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks.
First year guard Jordan Poydras (DePere, Wis.) had a season and career high 17 points and made five of six three-point baskets. Sophomore center James Fort (Annandale) also had a career high with 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds. First-year players Jon Christensen (Elko) and Tyson Kalien (Chippewa Falls) each had six points, season and career highs for the rookies.
Sophomore forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) had a career high nine rebounds.
Minnesota Duluth shot 37 percent from the field and were led in scoring by Jordan Reetz. Reetz scored 24 points. Bryan Sprang had ten points and a team high eight rebounds.
St. Cloud State will remain at home for the next two league games as the Huskies host Bemidji State and Minnesota, Crookston next Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7-8.
