Jensen's 30 Points Not Enough in Huskies First Loss, 78-74 at MSUM

Moorhead, Minn. – St. Cloud State University nearly overcame a 19-point second half deficit but Minnesota State University Moorhead prevailed in a 78-74 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) men's basketball win Saturday evening in Moorhead.
The 11th-ranked Huskies suffered their first loss of the season and are 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the NSIC. MSU Moorhead improved to 9-1 overall and are 4-1 in the NSIC. The Huskies will host Ashford (Iowa) University in a non-conference tilt on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 3 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall.
Senior guard Shaun Jensen (Spring Lake Park) poured in a career high 30 points, dished out seven assists and tallied a career high six steals in the loss.
Sophomore forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) equaled his season high with 13 points and had five rebounds. Senior forward Theo Rothstein (St. Michael) scored 11 points and junior forward Kenquane Brown (Robbinsdale) notched a team high six rebounds.
St. Cloud State shot 42.4 percent from the field and attempted 12 free throws. MSUM shot 51.9 percent from the field and had 23 free throw attempts. The Dragons out rebounded the Huskies 38-32.
The Dragons were led in scoring by Anthony Tucker who finished the game with 32 points, five rebounds and three assists. Alex Novak and Jordan Riewer each had 13 points. Novak had a game high eight rebounds.
Five minutes into the game the Huskies had jumped out to a 20-10 lead but two made free throws by MSUM's Tucker at the midway mark of the first half tied the game 22-22. The Dragons largest lead of the first half was 14 points, 42-28 with three minutes remaining the MSUM took a 44-32 lead into halftime.
The Dragons stretched the lead to 19 points on a three-ball by Tucker with 14:30 on the second half clock.
The Huskies didn't give up and went on a 31-14 run over the next 11 minutes fueled by 13 points from Jensen and three threes from Niehaus and climbed to within two points, 71-69 on a Kevin Levandoski three at 3:04 of the second half.
A three-point basket by Jensen with :24 seconds left drew the Huskies to 77-74 .
