Men's Basketball Claims 83-73 Win over University of Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, S.D. – St. Cloud State University junior guard Damarius Cruz (Robbinsdale) scored a career high 25 points to lead the Huskies to an 83-73 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over the University of Sioux Falls Saturday in Sioux Falls.
The Huskies improved to 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the NSIC. The Huskies travel to Minnesota Duluth for an NSIC match-up Tuesday, Jan. 15. Sioux Falls is 6-7 overall and 2-7 in the NSIC. The loss was only the second home loss in the last 23 games for the Cougars.
Cruz finished the night eight of ten from the field, including five of six from three-point range. His previous career high was 16 points against St. Joseph's on Nov. 24.
Joining Cruz in double figure scoring was senior guard Shaun Jensen (Spring Lake Park) with 17 points. Sophomore forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) added 12 points and equaled his career high with nine rebounds. Senior forward Theo Rothstein (St. Michael) scored 11 points and has scored in double figures in every game this season.
The Huskies shot 48.8 percent from the field and were six of 12 from three-point range. SCSU out rebounded the Cougars 34-23.
A.J. Holland led Sioux Falls with 17 points and five rebounds. Derek Brown and Bryan Kielpinski each scored 11 points for the Cougars. USF shot 44.4 percent from the field.
The University of Sioux Falls jumped out to a 5-0 and 10-4 lead early in the game. A Cruz three tied the game at 14-14. The Huskies took the lead for good on a Cruz jumper at 4:45 of the first half, 25-24, and went on to take a 39-30 half time lead.
