Men's Basketball Posts 81-66 Win at Minnesota Duluth for Third Straight Win

Duluth, Minn. – An 11-0 run to start the second half fueled the St. Cloud State University men's basketball team to an 81-66 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over Minnesota Duluth Tuesday night in Duluth.
St. Cloud State won its third straight game in five days and improved to 12-2 overall and 8-2 in the NSIC. Minnesota Duluth fell to 4-8 overall and 2-8 in the NSIC.
St. Cloud State senior guard Shaun Jensen (Spring Lake Park) led all players with 19 points. He was seven of seven from the free throw line and handed our four assists.
Senior forward Theo Rothstein (St. Michael) scored 18 points, had a game high seven rebounds, three assists and four steals, and extended his double figure scoring streak to 14 games. Junior guard Damarius Cruz (Robbinsdale) rounded out SCSU players in double figures as he scored 12 points.
St. Cloud State shot 44.4 percent from the field and 95 percent from the free throw line. The Huskies tallied a 34-31 rebounding edge in the game.
Minnesota Duluth shot 50 percent from the field but committed 20 turnovers. The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Brett Ervin with 15 points. Reece Zoelle added 11 points and Calahan Skogman had a team high six rebounds.
The Huskies started the game on a 6-0 run and fell behind 16-11 with nine minutes left in the first half. St. Cloud State took the lead for good at the 7:18 mark on a three-point field goal by first year guard Tyson Kalien (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) and led 36-32 at the half.
Back to back baskets by Rothstein, a three-point basket by sophomore forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) and two free throws, and a Cruz jumper accounted for the 11-0 run to start the second half.
St. Cloud State will host NSIC leader Minnesota State University on Friday at 8 p.m. and Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday at 6 p.m. in a pair of NSIC games.
It is Celebrate! St. Cloud State weekend. The Huskies will host men's and women's NSIC doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. The SCSU women are hosting alumni on Saturday and the SCSU men's hockey team is in town for a WCHA series against Denver.
