Minot State Upsets #19 St. Cloud State, 68-62

St. Cloud, Minn. – Minot State University upset #19 St. Cloud State University, 68-62 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) men's basketball matchup Saturday evening in Halenbeck Hall.
St. Cloud State is 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the NSIC. The Huskies go on the road to Southwest Minnesota State and the University of Sioux Falls next weekend. Minot State earned its first NSIC weekend road sweep and improved to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the NSIC.
St. Cloud State was led in scoring by senior forward Theo Rothstein (St. Michael) with 19 points. He also had seven rebounds and made 11 of 15 free throw attempts. Rothstein has scored in double figures in every game of his senior season.
Junior center Tim Bergstraser (St. Cloud) and sophomore guard Kevin Levandoski (Appleton, Wis.) also scored in double figures for the Huskies. Bergstraser finished the game with 15 points and seven rebounds, and Levandowski dropped in 11 points.
The Huskies shot 32.2 percent from the field and were an uncharacteristic 15.0 percent from three-point range.
Minot State was led in scoring by Dominique McDonald's 14 point performance. Thomas Korf added 12 points, and Isiah Gandy and E.J. Williams each had ten points. Chris East pulled down a game high 12 rebounds.
The Beavers shot 46.2 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from three-point range. Minot State was six of ten from three point range in the first half. The Beavers also out rebounded the Huskies 40-35.
The Huskies had an early 10-point lead, 19-9 after a traditional three-point play from Bergstraser at the 12:31 mark of the first half. Minot's Thomas Korf, a native of St. Cloud, single handedly put the Beavers in the lead scoring ten points in a 13-2 run that gave Minot a 22-21 lead at the 9:58 mark of the half.
A Levandoski layup at 5:43 tied the game for the third time in the first half, 28-28 but Minot stretched the lead to 36-30 and then took a 36-34 lead into the intermission.
Rothstein put the Huskies ahead 56-55 at the 5:07 mark of the second half on a pair of free throws. Minot State outscored the Huskies 13-6 in the final five minutes to claim the win.
