Hanmer Takes Huskies to a 2-0 Win Over Mavericks

Mankato, Minn. – St. Cloud State women's hockey team took on the Minnesota State University Mavericks on Saturday in game two of their final regular season WCHA road series. The Huskies shutout the Mavericks 2-0 for the victory.
After an overtime tie and a shootout win for the Huskies Friday they were ready to pull out another win to move up in the WCHA standings.
At the 16:50 mark of the first period SCSU's Audrey Hanmer took a shot in the air just in front of the blue line and put it right past MSU's Danielle Butters. Hanmer was unassisted on the goal taking the Huskies to a 1-0 lead.
St. Cloud State outshot Mankato by a margin of 12-to-7 in the first period.
In the second period it was defense on both ends of the ice. SCSU went zero-for-two on their power-play advantages in the second. The Huskies continued to outshoot the Mavericks in the second period by a margin of 17-to-6.
SCSU started out the third period on their third power-play advantage with a late penalty by Mankato in the second.
Just 38 seconds into the third period, Hanmer got past Butters to take a 2-0 lead over Mankato on a power-play.
This was Hanmer's first collegiate game scoring two goals, which both were unassisted.
St. Cloud outshot the Mavericks by a margin of 42-to-20 in the game and went one-for-five on power-play advantages.
Julie Friend was in the net again for the Huskies posting 20 saves for the win, while MSU's Danielle Butters totaled 40 saves. Friend now moves her record to 5-10-3 on the season.
The all-time series between the teams is now tied 28-28-5 with the Huskies 2-0 win.
St. Cloud State (9-20-3, 5-19-2-1 WCHA) will return to action on Feb. 22-23 as they play host to the University of Minnesota at the National Hockey & Event Center for their final home stand. Game times are set for 7:07 p.m. and 2:07 p.m. respectively.
