St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University soccer team (5-11-1, 4-9-1 NSIC) won in a close 2-1 overtime decision against the University of Minnesota Crookston (6-6-5, 5-5-4 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 31 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn.
Crookston scored the lone goal of the first half after they were awarded a corner kick and capitalized when #5 Kallie Gau headed it past senior Goalkeeper Kenzie Hanzlik. St. Cloud did not respond until late in the first when junior forward Gabby Fleck sent the ball to Naomi Kolhoff on a corner kick. Kolhoff headed the ball past UMC goalkeeper to score the game tying goal with one minute left. This was Kolhoff's first goal of the season.Â
Only 2:24 into overtime, St. Cloud was awarded yet another corner kick. Gabby Fleck sent the ball in front where senior forward Kara Espinosa put it in to win the game. This was Kara's third goal of the season and final goal at the Husky Stadium.Â
Tonight was St. Cloud's last home game of the season. Three seniors, Kara Espinosa, Kenzie Hanzlik and Taige Thoreson were saluted as tonight marked their last game at home in the Husky uniform.Â
St. Cloud will travel to Bemidji on Sunday, Nov. 2, to take on the Beaver's in the last NSIC game of the year.
