St. Cloud State Men's Hockey to Host Quinnipiac on Jan. 2-3

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (6-9-1, 2-5-1-0 NCHC) will continue its 2014-15 season with a pair of non-conference games against #14/15 Quinnipiac University (12-5-1, 8-2-0 ECAC) at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. on Jan. 2-3.

QU FACTS: The St. Cloud State men's hockey team will return to the ice on Jan. 2-3 for a weekend non-conference series at home against Quinnipiac. The Huskies own a 3-2 series lead against Quinnipiac, which dates back to the series opener on Jan. 16, 2010 with a 3-2 win by the Huskies at Quinnipiac. The last time this series was played at St. Cloud State, the Huskies scored a 4-2 loss on Oct. 29, 2010 and a 5-2 win on Oct. 30, 2010. The last meeting between these two schools was a 4-1 win by the Bobcats over the Huskies in the semifinals of the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four in Pittsburgh, Pa.
LAST TIME ON ICE: The Huskies completed the 2014 portion of its schedule with a pair of defeats at Nebraska Omaha. On Dec. 12, the Huskies suffered a 3-2 loss and they followed that with a 5-3 loss on Dec. 13 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
TOP OF THE LIST: St. Cloud State junior forward Jonny Brodzinski scored two power play goals for the Huskies in the weekend set at Omaha. He currently leads the nation with seven power play goals this season and he also paces the Huskies with 10 goals and 15 points scored in 16 games played this season. Of note, SCSU's current record for most power play goals in a season is 14 by Eric Johnson in 1994-95. In his three seasons at SCSU, Brodzinski already has 17 power play goals for the Huskies.

MORE ON BRODZINSKI: Brodzinski also improved his career totals at SCSU to 53 goals, 36 assists for 89 points. He just needs 11 more points this season to join the Huskies' elite 100-point club. He is now tied for 12th place in the Huskies' career goal scoring charts along with Brett Lievers, who had 53 at SCSU from 1990-95.
OFFENSE ON DEFENSE: Senior blueliner Andrew Prochno scored his seventh assist of 2014-15 on Dec. 12 in Omaha. Prochno is now tied for third on the SCSU career charts for most points by a defenseman along with Nick Jensen (2010-13) with 86 points apiece. Kelly Hultgren leads the list of SCSU defenders with 107 career points from 1990-93, while Taj Melson had 87 points from 1992-96. Prochno's 70 career assists ranks third in the SCSU records for most assists by a blueliner behind Jensen's 71 assists and Hultgren's 79 assists.
LOTS OF SHOTS: The Huskies hit a season game-high with 49 shots on goal during the 3-2 loss at Omaha on Dec. 12. SCSU outshot the Mavericks 49-23 in the contest, which included outing Omaha 21-7 in the first period of play. Freshman forward Patrick Russell hit a career game-high in the contest with 10 shots on target in the game.
HUSKIES HEADLINES: Freshman foward Blake Winiecki tallied his second goal of the season on Oct. 12 at Omaha. He currently has two goals and leads the team on the plus/minus this year at +5... Senior blueliner Tim Daly tops the team with 36 blocked shots this season, while fellow defenseman Andrew Prochno has 26 blocks this winter. One of Daly's hobbies outside of hockey is playing the drums...Prior to the two setbacks at Omaha on Dec. 12-13, the last time the Huskies were swept on the road was a pair of losses at New Hampshire on Oct. 12-13, 2012...on the power play, SCSU ranks sixth in the nation with a rate of 25.0%. SCSU is 16-of-64 on the advantage this season. SCSU's record for best power play percentage is a season was 31.1% during the historic 2001-02 season when the Huskies were 73-of-235 on the PP.
