Men's basketball falls at Minnesota Crookston, 99-85

Crookston, Minn. – St. Cloud State men's basketball fell to the University of Minnesota Crookston, 99-85, Saturday night to finish a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) road weekend with a split.
The Huskies are 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC. Minnesota Crookston moved to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 9-2 lead and led for nearly all the first half. St. Cloud State junior guard Jordan Poydras (Los Angeles, Calif.) made key baskets that gave the Huskies a three-point halftime lead. He tied the game 25-25 with a layup at the 6:34 mark, gave the Huskies their first lead of the game on a pair of free throws :39 seconds later and made a three as time ran out to give the Huskies a a 42-39 lead at the half.
The Golden Eagles started the second half on a 17-6 run and led 56-48 five minutes in. UMC went on to outscore the Huskies 60-43 in the second half.
Poydras led all players with 29 points and had a team high eight rebounds. He went eight of 17 from the field, five of eight from three-point range and made eight of 12 free throw attempts. He also handed out six assists.
Minnesota Crookston was led by Tyler West's double double of 27 points and ten rebounds. West missed two shots in the game as he was seven of eight from the field, three of three from beyond the arc and ten of 11 at the free throw line.

Huskies Tip-Ins
- St. Cloud State shot 50 percent from the field and lost the rebounding battle by one, 32-31. The Huskies forced UMC into 14 turnovers while only committing seven of their own.
- Senior guard Kevin Levandoski (Appleton, Wis.) was seven of 14 from the field and scored 15 points in the game.
- Senior center James Fort (South Haven, Minn.) added 11 points and six rebounds.
- Sophomore guard Scottie Stone (Melrose, Minn.) dropped in ten points.
- St. Cloud State returns home next weekend for a pair of NSIC games against MSU Moorhead on Friday and Northern State Saturday.
- SAAC will sponsor a Giving Tree at the men's and women's doubleheaders on both nights. On Saturday, a Teddy Bear Toss will take place at halftime of the men's game.
UMC Highlights
- Derrick Redd went 15 of 15 at the free throw line and scored 26 points. He dished out a game high seven assists.
- Tim Lubke contributed 17 points and John Hughes 14 in the winning effort by the Golden Eagles.
- UMC shot 52.2 percent from the field, made 13 of 24 three-point field goals for 54.2 percent shooting, and went to the free throw line 43 times, making 38 attempts. UMC made 33 of 38 second half free throws.
