#5/6 Huskies Skate to 2-2 Tie Against #15 Denver

Huskies Fall in Shootout 3-2
The #5/6 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (14-6-4, 8-4-3-0 NCHC) skated to a 2-2 tie against #15 University of Denver (13-8-5, 7-5-3 -2 NCHC) at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Friday, Feb. 7.
The two teams will complete their weekend series at the Brooks Center with a 7:07 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 8. Great tickets are available for this contest and you can purchase them at the gate on game night. The evening will be 80's Night at the Brooks Center.
Fans are encourage to wear their best 1980s attire for the evening. A contest will provide two tickets to the upcoming 2014 NCHC championships in Minneapolis to the fan with the best 1980s outfit. For complete ticket information, please call 1-877-SCSUTIX or 320-308-2137.
The Huskies opened the scoring on Feb. 7 in the first period with a marker by Nic Dowd at 6:12 of the period. He was assisted on the play by Ryan Papa and David Morley. The goal was Dowd's 13th of the season, while Papa's assist totals on the season now stands at 11. Morley continues to lead SCSU this year with 17 assists.
The Pioneers tied the contest at 14:45 of the first period with a power play goal by Ty Loney. Will Butcher and Quentin Shore combined for the two assists on the play.
In the second period, St. Cloud State regained the lead at 2-1 with a power play goal by sophomore blueliner Ethan Prow at 17:35 of the period. Jonny Brodzinski and Kalle Kossila each provided assists on the goal by Prow, which was his second of the season.
Brodzinski now has 13 assists this season and leads the club with 27 points in 2013-14. Kossila extended his point-scoring streak to eight games with his helper tonight. On the year, Kossila has 13 assists and 25 points.
Denver took advantage of the power play again in the third period with the game tying goal by Trevor Moore at 14:53. Daniel Doremus charted the lone assist on the power play goal for DU.
Neither team was able to break the deadlock in regulation or the overtime session. The Huskies did outshoot the Pioneers 2-0 in the extra period but Denver came back to win in the shootout 3-2.
SCSU's Brodzinski and Joey Benik posted goals in the shootout for the Huskies, while Denver's Nolan Zajac and Joey LeLeggia also had shootout goals. The shootout was then decided on a DU goal by Gabe Levin.
In the game, Denver outshot the Huskies 30-28. SCSU was 1-of-2 on the power play and Denver was 2-of-3 on the advantage. Ryan Faragher was the goalie of record for the Huskies with 28 saves, while Sam Brittain had 26 saves in the game for DU.
