Men's basketball finishes weekend with 94-77 win over Wayne State

St. Cloud, Minn. – For the second straight night junior guard Jordan Poydras (Los Angeles, Calif.) posted a double double as the St. Cloud State men's basketball team defeated Wayne State College 94-77 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play at Halenbeck Hall on Saturday.
Poydras finished the game with 22 points and a career high 12 assists. In Friday's loss to Augustana, Poydras tallied 20 points and ten assists. Saturday he made eight of 14 attempts from the field and was four of four at the free throw line.
The Huskies improved to 10-8 on the season and 6-6 in the NSIC. Wayne State dropped to 3-15 overall and 0-12 in the NSIC.
St. Cloud State will be on the road for the next four games, beginning Jan. 23 at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
The Huskies had their best shooting night of the season, hitting 63.9 percent of their attempts from the field, including 59.3 percent from three-point range. St. Cloud State out-rebounded the Wildcats, 34-26 and held a 54-35 lead at the half.
Huskies Tip-Ins
Four of the Huskies starters finished in double figure scoring and the bench accounted for 24 points in the win.
Senior center James Fort (South Haven, Minn.) continues to shoot well, making seven of eight field goal attempts for 15 points.
Junior transfer forward Donnell Cegers (Milwaukee, Wis.) added 14 points and and a team high six rebounds, making six of seven field goal attempts.
Sophomore guard Scottie Stone (Melrose, Minn.) scored in double figures for the fifth straight game, finishing the night with 13 points.
Senior forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) added 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Junior guard Eddie Alcantara (New York) made three of four three-point attempts to finish the game with nine points and five rebounds.
Wayne State Hits
The Wildcats shot 48.2 percent from the field and were 53.6 percent shooting in the second half.
Trae VandeBerg led all players with a game-high 23 points. He made five of nine three-point attempts.
Kendall Jacks added 18 points and a team high six rebounds and five assists.
Patrick Kurth scored 12 points.
