Bismarck, N.D. – St. Cloud State men's basketball started a four-game road swing with a 96-88 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over the University of Mary in Bismarck.
The Huskies improved to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in the NSIC. U-Mary is 5-12 overall and 3-10 in the league. The Huskies are now 2-5 all-time at Mary. St. Cloud State will play at Minot State Saturday.
Sophomore guard Scottie Stone (Melrose, Minn.) scored a career high 29 points and equaled his career high with seven rebounds to lead the Huskies in the win. He made a career high six three-point baskets, was seven of seven from the free throw line and dished out four assists, a season high.
Stone tied the game at 5-5 with a free throw just two and a half minutes into the game and went on to carry the lead for the rest of the game. St. Cloud State led 44-39 at the half.
The Huskies led by 14 points, 53-39, early in the second half but UMary went on a 15-2 run as five different Marauder players scored to draw the game to 54-55 at the 13:06 mark. A pair of free throws by U-Mary's Marquealis Edwards pulled the Marauaders within one point again, this time with just under four minutes left in the game.
Following a St. Cloud State time out, the Huskies junior forward Donnell Cegers (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored the next five points and the Huskies went on to the win.
Huskies Tip-Ins
Junior guard Jordan Poydras (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored 27 points and handed out six assists. He made 11 of 14 free throws. Ten of those free throws were made in the final 1:48 of the game.
Cegers finished the game with a career high 25 points and made ten of 13 field goals.
The Huskies shot 50.8 percent from the field, including 50 percent shooting from three-point range. St. Cloud State also had its third best free throw shooting night of the season making 85.2 percent attempts from the charity stripe.
U-Mary Hits
The Marauders had five players score in double figures including three starters and were led in scoring by Edwards with 22 points.
Bryan Jefferson posted a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Jaycob Velasco added 17 points.
The Marauders shot 50 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Huskies 41-30, including 16-7 on the offensive boards.
