Gophers Pull Away From the Huskies Late in the Game

The Minnesota Gophers (23-1-3, 16-1-3 WCHA) pull away late in the third to take the St. Cloud State Huskies (6-20-1, 3-15-1 WCHA) 7-1 on Jan. 24, 2015.
The Gophers scored the lone goal of the first period, sending the game into first intermission with the game up for grabs. As the second period unfolded, the Huskies went down three goals, but didn't allow themselves to get out of the game. Freshman forward, Alyssa Erickson, set the tone for her team as she scored her second goal of her collegiate career, when she ended a scramble in front of the net.
The Huskies put up a fight against the #1 team in the nation, but late into the third the Gophers put up 3 more goals to end the game with a 7-1 win over St. Cloud State.
St. Cloud put up 15 shots on net, while junior goaltender, Katie Fitzgerald, stood between the pipes facing 54 shots from the Gophers.
The Huskies will return to the ice on Feb. 2 against Minnesota State.
