Wisconsin snaps Huskies four game win streak, perfect start to WCHA play
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 3 Wisconsin handed No. 9/8 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (8-3-0, 6-1-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) its first conference loss of the season on Friday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Despite pulling even late in the third period, the Huskies had its four-game win streak snapped after falling 2-1.
The game was scoreless for the first 30 minutes of play before Wisconsin (7-2-0, 3-2-0 WCHA) broke through with a goal 10:09 into the middle period. The Huskies were awarded the game's only power play of the game later in the period but only managed one shot.
SCSU tied the game with 4:26 remaining after sophomore forward Julianne Labbé (Wendake, Quebec) buried a rebound just under the crossbar for her first goal of the season. Fellow sophomore forward Maria Mikaelyan (Moscow, Russia) took a shot from the high slot that hit the post and bounced back to Labbé who buried the puck in the back of the net before the Badgers netminder could recover.
The Huskies momentum was quickly killed off when Wisconsin scored the eventual game-winning goal just 1:12 after SCSU tied it up.
Freshman goaltender Alexis Ehrman (Calgary, Alberta) kept the Huskies in the game, saving 36 of the 38 shots she faced for a .947 save percentage.
