No. 8/10 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Falls to No. 14 Colgate in Series Finale

Huskies drop game two 2-1, Yrjölä scores lone SCSU goal
HAMILTON, N.Y. – No. 8/10 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (4-2-0, 2-0-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) was swept by No. 14 Colgate after dropping game two of the series, 2-1 on Saturday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena. Junior defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) scored the lone goal for the Huskies late in the third period.
The Huskies killed off four penalties in the first period to keep the game scoreless into the first intermission, but the Raiders (4-0-0, 0-0-0 ECAC Hockey) were able to convert on their fifth power play opportunity of the game which game 8:27 into the second period, taking a 1-0 lead. Colgate doubled its lead just over seven minutes later and took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.
Late in the third period freshman forward Sophie Olson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) took a shot from the bottom of the left circle that went wide but was collected by Yrjölä on the right half-wall, who skated into the high slot and fired a shot that found its way into the back of the net, cutting the Huskies deficit in half. Despite getting some chances in the final minutes with a power-play and the goaltender pulled, SCSU was unable to send the game to overtime.

SCSU finishes its six-game road trip and resumes WCHA play next weekend at (RV) St. Thomas (3-3-0, 1-3-0 WCHA). - Freshman forward Tayla Lamabe (Peace River, Alberta) skated to a +1 mark for the first time in her career.
- Senior forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) skated in her 115th career game.
