Sauriol notches three more points, Huskies earn first ranked sweep since Oct. 4-5, 2024
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – (RV) St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (2-0-0, 0-0-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) beat No. 7 UConn 4-2 for the second consecutive day Saturday afternoon at Torrey Arena in the Municipal Athletic Complex (MAC) in St. Cloud. Senior forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) tallied three more points in the series finale, and the series sweep was the first of a ranked team since Oct. 4-5, 2024.
Senior forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) put SCSU up 1-0 4:15 into the first period with her second goal of the weekend. Sauriol sent a pass from the left point to sophomore defender Maélie Pion (Sherbrooke, Quebec) below the right dot where she took a shot that bounced to Sundelin who scored from just in front of the net.
Under three minutes later, UConn (0-2-0, 0-0-0 Hockey East) responded with a goal of its own, tying the game, but SCSU took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission when Sauriol scored her third goal in the first four periods of the season. After SCSU won a draw on the left dot of the offensive zone junior defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) circled the net and had her wrap around attempt blocked, but the puck trickled out in front of the net and Sauriol buried it to give St. Cloud State a 2-1 lead after the first period.
Five minutes into the second period, senior forward Payton Holloway (Tomah, Wis.) extended the Huskies lead to two when she picked up the puck at center ice and skated past a UConn defender before putting a backhand shot past the netminder on the short side.
Just 44 seconds later, senior defender Marie Moran (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored SCSU's second goal of the period and fourth of the game. Moran, who received a beautiful cross-ice pass through the slot from her defensive partner, Pion, blasted a one-timer from the bottom of the left dot past the UConn goaltender.
UConn cut its deficit back down to two in the third period but was unable to pull its goaltender later in the period and SCSU held on for its second straight 4-2 win.
Junior goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Ylöjärvi, Finland) made 23 saves, posting a .923 save percentage.

- Sundelin recorded her 12th career multi-point game and second of the season. Her goal was the 30th of her career and her 110th game.
- Pion recorded her first career multi-point game and brought her career assist total to 10.
- Holloway and Moran each scored the fifth goals of their careers. It was Moran's 75th game.
- Yrjölä surpassed 15 career points in her 65th game.
- Kyrkkö made her 35th career start.
- Freshman forward Sophie Olson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) tallied her first career assist/point.
