Huskies set for third straight top-15 matchup, look to extend program record four straight wins against ranked teams
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 8/10 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (4-0-0, 2-0-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Conference) heads to Hamilton, New York for its third straight matchup against a ranked opponent when it faces off against No. 14 Colgate (2-0-0, 0-0-0 ECAC Hockey) this weekend. Puck drops from the Class of 1965 Arena are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT/6:30 p.m. ET (Friday) and 5 p.m. CT/6 p.m. ET (Saturday).

SERIES HISTORY
SCSU is 2-2-1 all-time against Colgate and 0-2-0 against the Raiders in Hamilton. Last season, the teams met in Washington, D.C. at the D1 in DC event and the Huskies won 3-2 in overtime. Then-junior forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) netted all three SCSU goals for her first career hat trick.
LET'S GO POLLING
After their second straight ranked series sweep, the Huskies moved up to No. 8 in U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Poll and No. 10 in the USA Hockey Poll after being ranked No. 13 the previous week in both. It is the first time since Nov. 18, 2025, that the Huskies are in the top 10 of both polls. Colgate comes into the weekend ranked No. 14 in both polls after starting their season with a sweep of RIT.
WCHA WEEKLY HONORS
Freshman goaltender Alexis Ehrman (Calgary, Alberta) and sophomore forward Maria Mikaelyan (Moscow, Russia) earned Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) weekly honors, as announced by the league office on Oct. 5. Ehrman was named the Goaltender of the Week after notching a 33-save shutout in her first collegiate start while Mikaelyan was named Forward of the Week after a six-point weekend in SCSU's road sweep of then-No. 15/14 Minnesota State.
The weekly honor is the third in Mikaelyan's young career and the first Forward of the Week nod after being named Rookie of the Week last season twice (Oct. 13, 2025 and Dec. 8, 2025). It was the first career weekly honor for Ehrman as well and the second and third weekly honors for the Huskies this season after senior forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) was named Forward of the Week on Sept. 28.
Ehrman made her collegiate debut on Friday, making a relief appearance for junior goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Ylöjärvi, Finland), who was injured during a collision behind the net. She played the final 9:40 and saved all four shots she saw. Then, in her first career start on Saturday, she posted a 33-save shutout, becoming the first Husky since Kyrkkö to earn a shutout in their first career start.
The freshman netminder's 33 saves were the third most in a game by a WCHA goaltender during the week and she also ranked No. 1 in save percentage (1.000), No. 1 in goals against average (0.00), tied for No. 1 in shutouts (one), No. 3 in total saves (37) among WCHA goaltenders during the week.
Mikaelyan recorded the league's first trick of the new season and led all WCHA skaters in goals (five), game-winning goals (two), power play goals (three), points (six, tie) and multi-point games (two, tie). She also ranked No. 3 in shot percentage (.455) and No. 4 in total shots (11).
Her first career hat trick, which included two power play goals, came in Friday's 5-2 win at No. 15/14 Minnesota State. It was the 29th hat trick in program history and the first since senior forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) netted one against Colgate on Nov. 28, 2025. In Saturday's series finale win, the sophomore notched three more points (two goals and one assist). Mikaelyan was named one of the WCHA 3 Stars of the Night after each game.
Over the weekend the Moscow, Russia native tallied her third and fourth career multi-goal games, fifth and sixth multi-point games, second and third 3+ point games and first career game with multiple power play goals.

St. Cloud State named four captains ahead of the 2026-27 season on Sept. 18. Senior forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) was named the captain, while fifth-year defender Regan Bulger (Yellowknife, Northwest Territories), senior forward Payton Holloway (Tomash, Wis.) and fifth-year forward Laura Zimmermann (Ringgenberg, Switzerland) were selected as alternate captains.
Sauriol, the 28th player in program history to wear a "C", is wearing a letter for the first time in her career alongside Holloway, who was named an alternate captain in just her second season with the program after transferring in from Minnesota Duluth. Bulger and Zimmermann are alternate captains for the second consecutive season, becoming the 25th and 26th players to wear a letter in multiple seasons.

The Huskies welcomed nine newcomers to the team this fall – eight freshmen and one transfers. Of the eight freshmen, four are forwards – Jasmine Hovda (Roseau, Minn. / Roseau HS (USHS)), Tayla Lamabe (Peace River, Alberta / St. Albert Slash (AFHL U18 AAA)), Madelyn Lee (White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake HS (USHS)) and Sophie Olson (Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Hill-Murray School (USHS)), three are defenders – Riley Iverson (West Fargo, N.D. / Academy of Holy Angels (USHS)), Emily Mitchell (South Lyon, Mich. / Little Caesars (19U AAA)) and Anna Sviridova (Voskresensk, Russia / Agidel Ufa (ZhHL)) and one is a goaltender – Alexis Ehrman (Calgary, Alberta / Edge School (CSSHL U18)).
The lone transfer, junior defender Tristan Thompson (Manotick, Ontario) comes to St. Cloud from Northeastern (Mass.).
SEASON PREVIEW
The Huskies return its two top point producers and top five goal scorers from a young team that made strides in Jalosuo's debut season as bench boss in 2025-26. The two top returning point scorers - senior forwards Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) and Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) - notched eight goals and 21 assists for 29 points and 16 goals and 10 assists for 26 points respectively. Sauriol's 21 assists were tied for the eighth most all-time in a single season and Sundelin's 16 goals were the most by a Husky since 2022-23.
Additionally, sophomore forward Maria Mikaelyan (Moscow, Russia) looks to build off her impressive freshman campaign which saw her tally 13 goals and six assists for 19 points while SCSU also returns three 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympians including two-time Olympian fifth-year Laura Zimmermann (Ringgenberg, Switzerland) who won a bronze medal with Team Switzerland along with junior goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland) and junior defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) who each made their Olympic team debuts for Team Finland. SCSU welcomes nine newcomers, including eight freshmen and one transfer, to the 2026-27 team.
WCHA PRESEASON COACHES POLL
St. Cloud State Women's Hockey was selected to finish sixth in the 2026-27 Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the league office on Sept. 8. The Huskies are coming off a sixth place finish in head coach Mira Jalosuo's first season in 2025-26.
SCSU received 20 points in the poll and were selected to finish behind Ohio State (48 points, six first-place votes), Wisconsin (44 points, two first-place votes), Minnesota (35 points), Minnesota Duluth (32 points) and Minnesota State (23 points). St. Thomas (15 points) and Bemidji State (seven points) rounded out the poll.

- The Huskies improved to 1-0-0 in home games this season and 3-0-0 in games against teams ranked/receiving votes in either the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Poll or the USA Hockey Poll.
- SCSU went 3-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill. The power play goals marked the first of the new season.
- The Huskies led the game in shots (29-16), faceoff wins (25-22). MSU led in saved (24-14) and blocked shots (16-8).

- Sophomore defender Hannele Tarkiainen (Pieksämäki, Finland) and freshman defender Anna Sviridova (Voskresensk, Russia) each scored their first career goal. Sviridova also skated to a team-best +2 mark. Tarkiainen netted her first career goal for her first career point and Svirdova scored her first career goal, first career power play goal and skated to a career-best +2 mark.

Sundelin also went 12-for-19 (.632) on the dot and blocked a team-high three shots and was named the No. 2 Star and Sauriol was the No. 3 Star. Sauriol tallied her 18th career multi-point game (third this season) and 14th career multi-assist game (second this season). She reached 50 career points. Sundelin posted her second career multi-assist game and her 13th career-multi-point game (third straight to start the season). She reached 30 career assists and 60 career points.
