Sauriol Tallies Three Points, (RV) St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Opens New Season with 4-2 Win Over No. 7 UConn

Sauriol tallies two goals and an assist in season-opening victory at the MAC
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – (RV) St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (1-0-0, 0-0-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) took down No. 7 UConn 4-2 in its 2026-27 season at Torrey Arena in the Municipal Athletic Complex (MAC) in St. Cloud on Friday evening. Senior forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) notched three points including the first two SCSU goals.
UConn (0-1-0, 0-0-0 Hockey East) took an early 1-0 lead, scoring the game's first goal just 2:20 into the first period, but SCSU responded late in the period, to make it 1-1 after Sauriol took the puck from her own end and skated through multiple UConn defenders before beating the netminder glove side.
Under five minutes into the second period, Sauriol netted her second goal of the game to give SCSU its first lead of the game. Senior forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) fell to the ground but managed to guide the puck to sophomore forward Julianne Labbé (Wendake, Quebec) who skated towards the net and made a drop pass to Sauriol who finished the play, beating the UConn goalie blocker side.
Two minutes later, St. Cloud State pushed its lead to two after fifth year forward Laura Zimmermann (Ringgenberg, Switzerland) and freshman forward Jasmine Hovda (Roseau, Minn.) completed a two-on-one give-and-go that ended up with Zimmermann tapping in the puck on a wide open goal after the previous pass to Hovda pulled the goalie out of their crease.
UConn cut its deficit back to two with just over six minutes left in the second period, but SCSU regained its two goal advantage after Sundelin found the back of the next 2:06 later. Freshman defender Anna Sviridova (Voskresensk, Russia) took a shot from the point, but the UConn goalie was unable to cover the puck and it bounced to Sundelin who was waiting net front and flipped it over the netminder's blocker to cap off a three goal second period for St. Cloud State.
UConn played the last 2:24 with an empty net and during that span, each team managed three shots, but neither found the back of the net.
Junior goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Ylöjärvi, Finland) made 27 saves, posting a .931 save percentage.
