Huskies hockey falls to Quinnipiac, 4-1

St. Cloud, Minn. – Quinnipiac University earned a weekend split with a 4-1 non-conference hockey win over St. Cloud State Saturday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The Huskies won Friday night, 3-2.
St. Cloud State is 7-10-1 overall. The 14th-ranked Bobcats improved to 13-6-1 overall.
Quinnipiac scored on a short handed goal to take a 1-0 lead in the first period. Tommy Shutt finished off three tape to tape passes with assists from Alex Barron and Matthew Peca at 8:49.
Barron handed out his second assist of the night on Tim Clifton's second period goal at 3:22 of the second period. Tanner MacMaster also assisted on the play.
Clifton's second goal of the night gave the Bobcats a 3-0 lead midway through the third period with assists from Justin Agosta and Derek Smith.
Huskies junior Jonny Brodzinski (Blaine, Minn.) put St. Cloud State on the board at 16:10 of the third period with assists from Nathan Widman (Naperville, Ill.) and Jimmy Murray (Darien, Ill.). It was Brodzinski's team leading 11th goal of the season.
Quinnipiac's Travis Denis found the empty net with assists from Matthew Peca and Sam Anas for the final tally of the game.
The Bobcats outshot the Huskies 28-24 in the game. The Huskies won the battle in the second period, 12-8 but Quinnipiac prevailed 15-7 in the third period.
The Huskies return to National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) action next weekend when St. Cloud State hosts Miami.
