#12 St. Cloud State rolls to 4-0 win over #14 Minnesota State Mankato

The #12 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (3-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) posted a convincing 4-0 victory over #14 Minnesota State University Mankato (0-3-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) on Friday, Oct. 16 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.Â
The victory was keyed by a stellar 30 save shutout win by junior goaltender Charlie Lindgren, who is now 2-0 on the season with a perfect 1.000 save rate and a 0.00 goals against average. Â He is becomes one of just three SCSU goalies to gain shutouts in back-to-back starts. Â The win for Lindgren follows a 3-0 win against the University of Alaska last week at the Kendall Hockey Classic in Anchorage, Alaska.
The victory also moves SCSU's record to 3-0 on the season, which is the best start for the Huskies since going 9-0 to start the 2001-02 season.
Senior forward David Morley delivered the game winner at 8:43 of the first period. Â He scored on a rebound on a shot by senior forward Joey Benik, while senior forward Jimmy Murray gained the second assist on the play.
The Huskies rode the 1-0 lead into the second period before rookie blueliner Jimmy Schuldt posted his first collegiate goal (and point) with a booming slapshot from the point that beat MSU goalie Cole Huggins at 10:55 of the second. Â Junior defender Niklas Nevalaine added the first assist on the play, while junior forward Ben Storm had the second assist.
In the third period, SCSU iced the game with two more goals to make the final 4-0. Â Sophomore forward Patrick Russell scored his first goal of the season at 10:39 with a solo assist from senior forward Kalle Kossila. Â The point moves Kossila into the team's point lead this winter with five points and four assists. Â The scoring was ended by Kossila, who scored his first goal of the season at 14:32 of the third with a solo helper from Russell.
On the night, SCSU outshot the Mavericks 33-30 with Huggins making 29 saves for MSU. Â On the power play, both teams were 0-of-1 on the night.
