North Dakota Takes Game #1 Against the Huskies

The St. Cloud State University Women's Hockey Team (2-5-0, 0-5-0 WCHA) lost a tight game to the #7 nationally ranked University of North Dakota (5-1-1, 3-1-1 WCHA) on Friday, Oct. 23 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
North Dakota was first on the board at the 13:34 mark in the first period with a goal by UND's Layla Marvin.
In the second, UND was awarded a penalty shot after SCSU's Jenna Redford dove to save a breakaway. Meghan Dufault capitalized on her opportunity with a power shot sent past Katie Fitzgerald's left shoulder.
In the first two periods Fitzgerald posted 20 saves to keep the Huskies alive going into the third period.
With just under three minutes to play, UND sealed a 3-0 victory with an empty net goal.
The Huskies shut out UND on the power play, only allowing one shot as they went 0-2 on the night.
Fitzgerald was the backbone for the Huskies as she only let in two goals on 33 saves, one of which was a penalty shot. She was awarded the second star of the game for her performance between the pipes.
The Huskies move to a 2-5, 0-5-0 WCHA record, while North Dakota jump to a 5-1-1-, 3-1-1 WCHA. The series continues with Saturday's 3:00 p.m. game at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
Tickets for the game may be purchased at the gate. All youth (grades 12 and under) will be admitted to all regular season home games this season for free at the HBNHC. SCSU students with a valid student ID card will also be admitted free to all regular season home dates in 2015-16.
