#7 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey rolls to 4-1 victory over #6 Omaha

The #7 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team charted its fourth consecutive victory and improved to 12-3-0, 6-1-0 NCHC on the season with a solid 4-1 victory over #6 Omaha (11-3-1, 3-3-1 NCHC) on Friday, Dec. 4 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies never trailed in the contest as they charted a 1-0 lead at 14:34 of the first period with a goal by rookie forward Robbie Jackson. Kalle Kossila and Will Borgen each had assists on the play for the Huskies.
In the opening minute of the second period, sophomore forward Judd Peterson posted his team leading 10th goal of the season at :44, which proved to be the game winner and also gave SCSU a 2-0 lead. Daniel Tedesco posted the first assist of the goal and Jimmy Murray carded the second assist on the goal. This was Tedesco's first assist of the season and it was Murray's eighth helper of the year.
Omaha broke the shutout with a shorthanded goal by Jake Guentzel at 2:52 of the second period. Justin Parizek and Ian Brady each had assists on the play for the Mavericks.
Later in the second period, Murray made it 3-1 with his even-strength goal at 16:41 of the period. Ethan Prow and Jimmy Schuldt each had assists on the play for the Huskies, which was Murray's sixth goal of the season.
To complete the run, Jackson marked his second goal of the evening at 12:56 of the third period. Kossila and Nathan Widman each had assists on the play for SCSU. Of note, Kossila now has a team leading 15 assists and 18 points for SCSU. The goal was Jackson's fifth of the year, while it was Widman's eighth assist for the Huskies.
Charlie Lindgren was a driving force behind SCSU's success on ice. He had 26 saves and allowed only one goal on the night, while Kirk Thompson had 22 saves for Omaha. On the power play, SCSU was 0-3 and Omaha was 0-1. The Mavericks outshot the Huskies 27-26 in the contest, but SCSU did manage to outshot the Mavericks 8-4 in the final period of play.
SCSU and Omaha will complete their weekend series at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center with a 7:07 p.m. match on Saturday, Dec. 5. The game will feature the Ragstock Ugly Holiday Sweater contest (wear an ugly holiday sweater to the game and you will receive a discount coupon for Ragstock). The game will also featue the annual Teddy Bear Toss. Bring a new or gently used stuffed animal or Teddy Bear to the game. Fans can then throw the toys onto the ice during the first intermission.
