St. Cloud State men's hockey on the road to #1 North Dakota

 The St. Cloud State University Huskies men's hockey team (15-14-1, 10-9-1-0 NCHC) will continue its 2014-15 season with a pair of conference games against the #1 University of North Dakota (22-6-3, 13-5-2 NCHC) on Feb. 27-28, at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D. The action will get underway on Feb. 20 at 7:37 p.m. (CT), while the pucks drops on Feb. 27 at 7:37 p.m. (CT). The game on Feb. 27 will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network (DirecTV 221/Dish Network 158 or check your local cable listings). The game on Feb. 28 will be televised live on Fox Sports Atlantic (DirecTV 608/Dish Network 449 or check your local cable listings) and also on the Midco Sports Network in the Grand Forks region. Fans can listen to both games on KCML FM 99.9 (www.lite999.com) or KVSC FM 88.1 (www.kvsc.org).

MILESTONE NEAR:  SCSU's next victory will be coach Bob Motzko's 200th career win with the Huskies. His current mark over 10 seasons is 199-150-41. He ranks second in the SCSU records for most career wins behind Craig Dahl, who had 338 wins from 1987-2005.
SWEEP CITY:  The Huskies scored their third series sweep of the year with 4-3 and 2-0 victories over #5 Omaha on Feb 20-21 at the HBNHC. Goalie Charlie Lindgren made 21 saves in the shutout win on Feb. 21, which marked his second shutout of the 2014-15 season and his third career shutout. Defenseman Nathan Widman tallied his second GWG of the season on Feb. 21, while David Morley coined his third game winner of the season on Feb. 20.
ON A ROLL:  SCSU is 4-1-0 in its last five games and the Huskies have charted a 6-4-0 record in their last 10 outings. SCSU has outscored its opponents 34-13 since Jan. 23. The Huskies own a 9-5-0 record since the holiday break, which is a 64.3% winning rate. Before the holiday break, the Huskies were 6-9-1 (40.6% winning rate).
ADVANTAGE SCSU:   The Huskies rank third in the nation on the power play this week with a 23.4% rating (29/124). Jonny Brodzinski leads the nation with 10 power play goals this season...SCSU is the eighth least penalized team in the nation this season with an average of 9.3 penalty minutes per game.
LEAGUE LEADERS:  In the NCHC (league games only), Joey Benik ranks second with 23 points (1.15 ppg) and Jonny Brodzinski ranks third in the league with 11 goals (0.55 gpg). For assists, Benik ranks second in the league with 17 helpers and Kalle Kossila ranks third with 16 assists...the SCSU trio of Joey Benik (15), Kalle Kossila (13) and Jonny Brodzinski (11) rank 1-2-3 in the NCHC for power play points scored in 2014-15...in the NCHC, SCSU and North Dakota are tied for the best defense with an average of 2.25 goals allowed per game in league competition...SCSU rookie Patrick Russell paces the conference for most points as a freshman with 20 points in 20 NCHC games this winter. Overall, Russell has charted 10 goals and 13 assists this winter. NOTES AND NEWS:  Joey Benik (11g/18a) and Jonny Brodzinski (17g/12a) both own the team's point scoring lead with 29 points apiece in 2014-15...Kalle Kossila had three assists in the weekend sweep against #5 Omaha. He now leads the club with 20 assists this season and has 97 points (32g/65a) in 108 games during his career at SCSU...David Morley will be playiing in his 100th career game at SCSU on Feb. 27. He has 12 goals and 11 assists this season and 75 points (32g/43a) during his career. He has 12 points and 7 goals in his last eight games this season...SCSU is 9-0-0 when Morley scores a goal...Ethan Prow had six points prior to missing five games from Jan. 10-24. After his return, Prow has scored 9 goals in the last six games.
PWR PROWESS: The Huskies currently rank 14th in the Pairwise rankings on Feb. 23, and their strength of schedule is ranked second in the nation according to USCHO.com's KRACH rankings...SCSU received votes in both Division I men's college hockey polls this week. The Huskies own a 15-14-1, 10-9-1 NCHC record as they head into this weekend's games at #1 North Dakota on Feb. 27-28.
90TH POINT: Senior defender Andrew Prochno scored his 74th assist and 90th career point on Feb. 20. He currently ranks second in the SCSU record book for most assists by a defenseman. Kelly Hultgren owns the team record for most assists by a defender with 79 from 1991-95.
