Men's basketball earns weekend sweep with 91-82 win over Upper Iowa

St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State senior James Fort (South Haven, Minn.) posted his third double double of the season and junior guard Jordan Poydras (Los Angeles, Calif.) dropped in a game high 31 points to lead the Huskies to a 91-82 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over Upper Iowa Saturday night at Halenbeck Hall.
St. Cloud State improved to 15-9 overall and 11-7 in the NSIC. Upper Iowa went to 14-10 overall and 10-8 in the league standings.
Fort finished the game with 19 points ten rebounds and five blocked shots. He shot seven of nine from the field and made five free throws. He scored six of his seven second half points in a two minute span. He scored his final basket on a dunk after blocking a shot on the other end of the court.
Poydras was one point shy of his career high 32 points and made six three-point baskets. He also handed out four assists.
Upper Iowa led 39-37 at the half as the Peacocks outscored the Huskies 12-2 in the final three minutes erasing an eight point lead for the home team. The Peacocks Jordan Hay scored the final four points of the half to put Upper Iowa in the lead.
The Huskies took a ten point lead at the 13:21 mark of the second half on a Scottie Stone layup but the Peacocks went on a 14-6 run to draw within two points, 66-64 at the 7:23 mark. The Huskies built the lead to ten three more times and their largest second half lead was 12, 89-77 with :38 seconds left.

- Sophomore guard Scottie Stone (Melrose, Minn.) had 17 points and a career high nine rebounds. He dished out a season high five assists, which equals his career high.
- Junior forward Donnell Cegers (Milwaukee, Wis.) and senior forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) each had eight points

- The Peacocks bench contributed 38 points in the game. Josh Weeber came off the bench to score 14 points and Jordan Hay added ten points and eight rebounds.
- Jimmy Roth led Upper Iowa in scoring with 18 points and five rebounds.
- Bo Pagel finished the game with 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.
- The Peacocks out-rebounded the Huskies 40-36 as all ten players who played had at least one board.
