
Freshmen lead the Huskies to 2-1 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio --- The St. Cloud State Huskies (10-9-3, 6-8-3 WCHA) took down the Ohio State Buckeyes (7-16-0, 3-14-0 WCHA)for the third time this season after ending a close battle with a 2-1 score on Jan. 15.
The Buckeyes came out with a strong first period out shooting the Huskies 10-4, but it was SCSU's Hannah Potrykus who found the back of the net first to give SCSU the lead with 8:25 to play in the opening 20 minutes. The goal marks the young forwards third WCHA goal and fourth goal in her inaugural season.
The Huskies continued their 1-0 lead until OSU's Julia McKinnon scored on St. Cloud's Katie Fitzgerald to tie the game 8:29 into the second period. SCSU wasted no time taking their lead back when freshman powerhouse Julia Tylke put one past Buckeye goaltender a mere two minutes after OSU's lone goal of the game. Lexi Slattery picked up her fourth point in three games and Illikainen third on the assists.
St. Cloud held strong defense when faced with three penalties to kill in the game, two of which came in the last five minutes of play when Slattery and Markstrom took back to back minors, giving the Buckeyes a last chance to close the lead. Fitzgerald remained composed and the Huskies went on to cement a 2-1 victory.
The opponents will face off for game two on Jan. 16 at 4:07 (ET) where the Huskies look to bring home the sweep.
