Columbus, Ohio --- The St. Cloud State Huskies (11-9-3, 7-8-3 WCHA) skated their way to a 2-1 win over the Buckeyes to get their second sweep against Ohio State (7-17-0, 3-15-0 WCHA) in the 2015-16 season.
Neither team found the back of the net in the opening 20, but a late OSU penalty gave St. Cloud State the man advantage that carried over into the beginning of the second period where SCSU leading scorer, Molly Illikainen, netted the first goal of the game to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead with two periods left to play. Lexi Slattery and Julia Tylke nabbed their second points in the series on the assists.
Ohio State didn't sit back and tied the score quick when Lauren Spring threw a rebound past St. Cloud's Katie Fitzgerald 4:08 into the second period. The Huskies pulled ahead with 14 seconds left on the clock when Tylke continued her strong offensive weekend with her second goal of the series and second point of the game. Brittney Anderson tallied her fifth assist and Alyssa Erickson her eighth.
The Huskies defense was led by Fitzgerald making 13 saves in the first and second and 10 in the third.
St. Cloud is set to host their first home series of 2016 when the Minnesota Gophers come to town on Jan. 22 and 23. PURCHASE TICKETS
