Grand Forks, N.D --- After a 1-0 win on Friday night, the St. Cloud State Huskies (12-15-4, 8-14-4 WCHA) dropped to the #8/9 North Dakota (15-10-5, 12-9-5 WCHA) 3-0 on Saturday for a series split on Feb. 13 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
St. Cloud was looking to steal six points from the Fighting Hawks after shutting them out on Friday by a 1-0 score, but it was UND on the board first when Becca Kohler finished on the back door to give her team the lead 7:04 into the game. The Huskies were out shot in the first period 14-6 but came into the second looking to close UND's lead.
St. Cloud State regained momentum in the second period after being awarded two power plays but it was UND's defense that came out on top. After killing two back to back penalties the Fighting Hawks went on to extend their lead 2-0 after a shot was sent high glove side on SCSU's Katie Fitzgerald.
As the final period unfolded the Huskies were unable to get on the board and one more UND goal was given up to solidify the 3-0 loss.
The Huskies were consistent putting up 6 shots per period but could not Shelby Amsley-Benzie in goal. Fitzgerald saw 26 shots in 60 minutes of play to make a total of 65 shots faced in the series.
St. Cloud's regular season comes to a close next weekend when they host Minnesota Duluth on Feb. 19-20. The Huskies will celebrate the careers of the five seniors on the 20th after a 7:07 PM puck drop on Feb. 19 and a 3:07 PM puck drop on Feb. 20.
