St. Cloud Women's Hockey end their season with a 6-1 loss against UND

Grand Forks, North Dakota --- The St. Cloud State Women's hockey team (13-18-4, 9-15-4 WCHA) end their season with a 6-1 loss against the University of North Dakota (18-11-5, 13-10-5 WCHA) in the first round of WCHA playoffs on Feb. 27 at the Ralph Englestad Arena in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
UND got off to a quick start with a shot sent high past SCSU's Katie Fitzgerald. They followed with a second goal 4:19 into the second period. The first period came to a close with the Huskies trailing 2-0 and UND leading in shots by 13-3.
St. Cloud came alive in the second period and closed the 2-0 lead when senior captain, Vanessa Spataro scored a power play goal on a tip in front of the net 10:11 into the period to make it 2-1. Juniors, Payge Pena and Lauren Hespenheide were awarded the assists on the Huskies lone goal. The second period saw a combined 2 penalties and shots were 12-4 for St. Cloud State.
As the third period unfolded the Fighting Hawks pulled ahead. They scored two goals within four minutes of each other to stretch the lead to 4-1. They followed with two empty net goals late in the game to finish with a 6-1 final score.
In her last game between the pipes, Fitzgerald faced 23 shots on net, while the Huskies tested UND goaltender with 29.
