Track and Field Programs Compete at Saint Mary’s Open

WINONA, Minn. – The St. Cloud State outdoor track and field programs were led by its women's track program at the Saint Mary's Open on Saturday, April 30, at the Saint Mary's Outdoor Complex in Winona, Minn.
The two teams ended up winning a total of six events on the afternoon and had 13 top-three finishes.
The 4x100 relay team of sophomore Emily Yeager, junior Jasmine Grant, freshman Jada Rice and freshman Nicole Morpurgo won their event in a time of 49.96.
Morpurgo picked up a pair of individual event victories on the afternoon in winning both the 100m dash (12.50) and the 200m dash (26.68). It was her second 100m victory of the season and the first time she has claimed the title in the 200m on the campaign.
Grant picked up her own individual victory for the first time this season in the 400m dash (59.88).
Freshman Desmond Deshay earned an individual title in the men's long jump with his leap of 6.73m/22'01.00".
Junior distance runner Rachel Sakry placed second in the 800m (2:20.49) and third in the 1500m (4:56.50).
Freshman Vance Barnes finished as the runner-up in the 100m dash (10.91).
Fellow freshman Wezley Turner placed third in the 400m (50.38).
Junior Quinn Anderson won the discus (49.00m/160'09") and placed third in the men's shot put (14.85m/48'08.75). Senior Ryan Johnson finished third in the discus (47.25m/155'00"). Senior Rafael Saez placed fourth in the discus (46.29m/151'10").
Senior Heather Clankie was the runner-up in the discus (41.79m/137.01"). It was her third time with a top-three finish in the event this season.
The women's program also sent junior Patience Yalartai to compete at the Duke Relays where she finished 11th overall in the triple jump with a leap of 11.60m/38'00.75".
