"We are very excited about our leadership for next season. Lauren did an excellent job this past season as an assistant and will be a great captain for the Huskies. Jenna and Christa bring a lot of experience and passion to our hockey team and will continue to work hard everyday to make our team better. Our leadership is in good hands with these strong independent young ladies leading the way," Eric Rud.Â
Hespenheide is no stranger to leading the Huskies, serving as assistant captain during the Huskies record breaking 2015-16 season. The squad set unprecedented numbers in St. Cloud State Women's Hockey program. The team put together a seven game win streak after sweeping Minnesota State Mankato, Ohio State and Lindenwood, and a shootout win against Minnesota Duluth. The run marks the longest win streak in program history and beats the previous record of five, which was set on Nov. 9-22 in 2008. They went on to finish 5th in the WCHA with a league record of 9-15-4 and 13-18-4 overall. St. Cloud State returns 17 of 22 players from

"The season as a whole went very well but we aren't settling and have bigger accomplishments to achieve. The team put in a lot of work this spring and we are all very excited to get the new season started. We have set a new standard for this team and everyone is buying into it, which is exciting. Being named captain is a huge honor and I am very grateful to be put in this position. The season can't come soon enough," Hespenheide.Â
St. Cloud State will open up the 2016-2017 campaign at home on September 23rd and 24th when they host the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
