Sophomore Suvi Ollikainen and incoming freshman Laura Kluge will represent Finland and Germany

ST. CLOUD—St. Cloud State women's hockey sophomore forward Suvi Ollikainen and incoming freshman forward Laura Kluge have been chosen to play for their respective countries at the 2017 Nations Cup, which begins this week. The tournament will take place January 4-7 with games split between Telfs, Austria and Fussen, Germany.

Ollikainen will suit up for Finland, while Kluge will represent Germany.

The eight-team tournament field is split into two groups. Kluge and the Germans are in Group A along with Canada, the Czech Republic and Sweden, while Ollikainen and Finland will compete in Group B against Austria, Russia and Switzerland. Both teams open group play on Wednesday, January 4. Germany will face Sweden, while Finland takes on Austria, both at 12:30 p.m. (CT).

Based on the results of group play, Germany and Finland will either play for first, third, fifth or seventh place on Saturday, January 7.

Both Ollikainen and Kluge are no strangers to international play. Ollikainen has played 47 games at the senior level for Finland over the last two seasons, including the 2015 and 2016 IIHF World Championships where she helped her homeland to third and fourth place finishes, respectively. Kluge has represented Germany at two World Championships. Most recently, she led the Germans to a Group A first place finish at the 2016 IIHF Women's Division I World Championships and paced all players with six goals in the tournament and tied for the points lead with nine en route to being named Best Forward.

Ollikainen has three points (0 3) in 20 games with the Huskies this season, while Kluge has five goals and 13 points playing for Linköping HC in Sweden. She will join SCSU this fall for the 2017-18 season.
