Volleyball Downed by No. 14 Winona State, 3-0

Winona, Minn. – The St. Cloud State volleyball team (12-9, 4-7 NSIC) dropped a 3-0 match to No. 14 Winona State (14-5, 8-3 NSIC) on Saturday, Oct. 14, at McCown Gymnasium. The team lost by scores 25-11, 25-22 and 25-18.
Redshirt freshman Abby Templin tied for the team lead with her six kills. Sophomore Marah Mulso also had six kills plus hit .312 for the match. Freshman Erin Navratil totaled five kills plus two service aces. Freshman Maddy Torve led the team with her 19 assists. Sophomore Clara Krenz totaled a match-high 19 digs. Senior Nicole Miller totaled seven digs. The Huskies ended up with 28 kills, a .054 hitting percentage, 27 assists, five service aces, 48 digs and three blocks in the contest.
Winona had three players that recorded eight kills in Maria Wrang, Maria Fruechte and Danielle Rampart. Wrange also hit .429 for the match. Rampart reached double figures in digs with 11. McKenna Larsen led the team with her 30 assists plus she had seven digs and six kills. Becca Pagel recorded 13 digs. WSU totaled 41 kills, hit .301 with 40 assists, four service aces, 56 assists and eight blocks in the three sets.
The most competitive set of the day came in the second when SCSU lost 25-22. The set was tied at 18 all, but a quick 4-0 run put the Winona State up, 22-18. SCSU fought back and got the lead down to two, 24-22, on the kill from senior Kayla Crane. The Warriors were able to close out the contest on a block assist from Rampart and Wrange.
The St. Cloud State volleyball team returns home to host University of Mary and Minot State next weekend. SCSU will take on the Marauders at 6 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Halenbeck Hall. The program then welcomes in Minot State for a 2 p.m. contest on Oct. 21.
