The Huskies won the first set by a close 25-22 margin. Kuglin lead the charge with her five kills. SCSU jumped out to an early 10-4 lead and extended the advantage to eight, 21-12, on the service ace from Crane before the Beavers went on a 6-0 rally to get to within three points, 21-18. SCSU held strong though and were able to outlast the charging Beavers.
The second set was another strong early effort from SCSU with the team getting a 15-7 lead on the kill from Templin. The lead hit nine points on the kill from Gruber, 20-11. The lead reached 12, 24-12, on another Templin kill before settling for the 25-14 victory.
The third set was a more closely contested contest. BSU grabbed an early 7-5 lead before SCSU took the lead back for good, 10-9, on the kill from Templin. SCSU's largest lead was seven, 25-18, on the set and match-ending kill from Miller.
"I thought we played fairly consistent all the way through tonight," head coach Chad Braegelmann explained. "We had more kills each set as the night progressed and Abby and Krista did a fantastic job scoring and limiting errors for us. Clara didn't have a dig after the first set as they were hitting balls away from her, but she still finished with over 20 digs. We have to continue to work on offensive consistency and we need all of our hitters to be effective to have a chance to be successful on a regular basis."
The St. Cloud State volleyball team now returns home this weekend to host No. 2 nationally ranked Concordia-St. Paul (14-1, 7-0 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall. The program then welcomes in Minnesota State (9-6, 3-4 NSIC) on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m.
